Having written off my bike in March and in the process dislocated and broken my right ankle, snapping all the ligaments and having to have it pinned and plated, I'm now just starting to walk again and am thinking about boots to wear when I get back on a bike (Honda X11).
Has anybody used adventure type boots such as

On a road bike, or are they just too stiff in the ankle?
Main thinking is ease of putting on and extra ankle protection if the worst happens again.
Or am I just being a div?

Far too stiff, used them on enduro bikes on the road but ran gear lever up high.

Was your leg in a plaster cast? That's what riding in MX boots feel like.

Good quality trials boots are more supple for dexterity, I have 2 pairs, Gaerne and Forma, but saying that the Forma would be too stiff for a road bike.

Personally, having broken my ankle I the past, I stick to good quality road boots on my road bikes, far comfier & designed to slide as well as take impact.

I have some low-ish regular road boots, and also full on mx boots for dirt biking. But got these as an in-between, for when I want to take the Tiger off-road but also spend a lot of time on the road.

They are a perfect in-between IMHO. I really like them, and wear them more than my regular road boots. They have a lot of support, but are flexible enough to shift easily too. The full height version is called the Corozal.

I would go down the Daytona Security Evo 3 route.

I once left my boots at my parents and when I came to ride my Ducati 998 all I have to hand were some A-Star Tech-10's, needless to say it was near impossible to change gear.

I have a pair of these Forma boots. I wouldn't want to ride a sports bike with them, but I would have thought they would be fine with a Honda x11. I use them on my Aprilia futura in the winter without any problems.

I had Aplinestars Tech 7s and would strongly advise against wearing for 'normal' riding. There's very little 'give' in any direction. They're like having a plaster cast on your foot / leg
Perhaps try some Adventure boots?

I wear adventure boots all the the time for the all day comfort. Mine are pretty flexible with some protective parts but you can get softer ones with minimal protection and more rigid ones with more protection or motocross boots like the ones linked which will be pretty stiff.

Depends how the more flat footed works foot position works on your bike.

I have alpinestar tech 10s. Were fine to use on road after I adjusted the gear lever on my bmw f800gs. Think would struggle on a non-adventure bike.

I've got the high leg version of these, mainly bought them for running in winter and use them on my GS310. Like has been said their very stiff in the leg and fine for the bike I have but I wouldn't consider them for a sports bike.

I use the higher version on a multistrada. They’re much more flexible than the AS tech 7s I use on an enduro bike. I think as much as the ankle stiffness, it’s the thickness / bulkyness of the boot getting it above and below the gear lever that takes a bit of learning.

Nothing wrong with wearing those on the road, although they claim to be motorcross they're certainly not proper enduro or motorcross boots so I'm guessing they're designed for road use/very light green lane use on something adventure bikey.

You may need to adjust the gear level slightly to get the boot under but you'll still get a bit of feel through them.
I wear these on the road (wear AS Tech 7s off road) and they look pretty similar https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/...

This, go into a dealer that stocks them and try twisting all the boots they have at the ankle, the Daytona’s offer a different level of protection to most other boots available
