My first helmet was a fairly mid-range Bell, with the photochromatic visor.

I've since had AGV and Arai, but I really miss the Bell, not sure if it just suits my head shape better. The AGV is arguably better made, lighter, and the lip on the back definitely helps with drag when looking left and right. But I'm not sure I love it as much as my old helmet.

The Arai I'm still not sure about. Seems very noisy/vibrationy, could just be the bike & screen combo.

I also really want another photochromatic visor again, it's so useful. I'm not sure who other than Bell makes one.

So what's your favourite and why?

I've had lots of different helmets over the years but I found out I havs a Schuberth shaped head and like how quiet they are.

I’ve had Arai and Shoei, wouldn’t mind trying a Schuberth but none of the local dealers seem to stock them.

I’ve stuck with arai and Shoei because they fit the best, the Shoei gt air is probably the best of the lot.

Tried Shoei's, crucify me for anything more than about 15 mins.
Tried Arai's - similar.
X-Lite X802 carbon was generally pretty comfortable but met an untimely end when some tosser ran over it in a car park (and nearly hit me and the bike, in the process)

Currently have a Shark Spartan GT Carbon and it fits me the best yet - was measured up and fitted at Motolegends. Clearly I have a rounder head than I thought I had. wobble

In the 80s I started out with a Nolan, then tried a Bell, saved up for a Shoei, then Arai though 90s and 2000. Last 10 years been wearing Shark, mostly their Evo series of flip up/convertible helmets which fit my requirements at the time and a Race-R Pro carbon that was a bargain in the sale 1/2 price.

I like the Shark helmets because they offer a good blend of quality/features at a price point, the shape fits me well. The EVO is just really practical and the Race-R Pro is really light, quiet and aerodynamic for wear on a naked bike.

Shoei for me, and then maybe AGV.

I would really like a Bell but I just don't have a Bell or Arai shaped head, I get pressure points on either side of my forehead as soon as I pull the helmet on.

I'm in need of a new helmet at the minute and want another X-Spirit 3 to replace my crash damaged one, but the colours at the moment are shockingly bad.

For build quality, shape and fit: Arai.

I have a Shoei Neotec 2 which is an amazing bit ok kit and just bought a Arai Rapide which I’m amazed at the quality, I’d put it just above the Shoei in terms of quality.

Tried a Caberg and Nolan but they aren’t a patch on Arai and Shoei imo…

i've tried tons of helmets and settled on arai, currently an rx7v fim. its not the plushest or the quietest, but its a great performing helmet.

i really like the scorpion exo r1 though, the pump up cheek pads are a really neat idea.

Schuberth. It saved my life once in a 40+mph head on RTA, it is trusted by Formula 1 drivers, and it is the quietest lid around with great features. Works for me.

Shoei for me. Having sold helmets and tried most they are better. Fit well, lighter, better features and build quality.

I like Arai’s too but feel that they haven’t really progressed over the past 10 years.

I really wanted an AGV Pista but in the end I couldn’t justify it over an X Spirit 3.

I’ve got a Neotec 2 as well.

I’m not quite as impressed.

It seems noisy but that could simply be the fit on my head.

What really annoys me is the visor constantly mists up. I did neatly 900 miles over this weekend and only a handful were with the visor closed. Even when it was up to 13-14 degrees I still had to ride with it cracked open. So now I need to fit a Pinlock.

I was seriously wishing I’d taken my old Arai Chaser.

I've got an RPHA11 at the moment in one of the marvel colourways and I'm really happy with it, the main thing is the fit but the finish and materials also seem like really good quality. I went to MCL with the intention of getting a Shoei nxr but the HJC just fit and felt better, surprisingly the AGV K6 was on a par with the HJC and if they had the nardo grey in my size on the day I probably would have bought one and been happy.

In order of buying:
1) Shoei
2) AGV (Biaggi rep)
3) Dainese (their first helmet)
4) Lazer (Hyper Sport)
5) Scorpion (XD Air).

Most comfortable and quiet was the Dainese.

Shoei as they are the only ones that fit me. Fortunately they do make good helmets, although I wish they did better colours.

I love the designs on lots of other brands. I have a Suomy Dovi rep that looks awesome but doesn't fit properly.

That’s the thing, I went round the bike show one year and tried on every helmet I could.
The ones that fitted the best were Shoei, Arai and scuberth.

Always go with the best fit, everything else is secondary.

Started off in 1989 with an AGV. I wanted the Bieffe because Roger Burnett wore one. However my best friend also wanted a Bieffe and for us both not wanting to have the same helmet, he won the day biggrin.

I’ve moved onto Arai’s and love the quality and style. When I bought my current RX7V I looked very closely at the Shark Race R Carbon and really liked it. Like a previous post I do find the Arai slightly noisy.

However my next helmet will be another Arai RX7V (or whatever the equivalent is and hopefully in the Joey Dunlop’s colour scheme beer

Ah ok, never had an issue with misting, mine came with a pin lock and once fitted it’s been superb, noise isn’t a factor for me as I wear ear plugs at all times.
