New Royal Enfield GT arriving soon, now I need stuff!!
Discussion
Ok so I was planning on coming out of retirement and purchasing a Ducati Cafe Racer but dragged my heels and it was sold.
This weekend I went to see if my short ass would fit a RE and ending up buying a Continental Gt Twin which will be getting delivered in a few weeks.
So what’s on your list of must haves? I’m looking at Bluetooth intercom and saw good reviews for the Fodsports FX8. Does anyone have this model?
Phone holder? Do I need one?
I’m like a kid at Christmas as I stopped biking in 2006 so while my jacket fits I need a new lid. Anyone have opinions on retro ones? Certainly won’t get a helmet to match the bike.
Sooooo excited!

That looks fantastic.
Hope you enjoy it. Let us know what you think of it after you've had chance to ride it.
They didn’t have a GT to test but I took out their Interceptor, I really enjoyed it. I was worried as I used to have a blade back in the day but chances are my back and hands won’t suffer as much with this one.Hope you enjoy it. Let us know what you think of it after you've had chance to ride it.

I can’t help with your questions but wanted to say how refreshing your enthusiasm is
Totally agree, and that RE looks stunning!poo at Paul's said:
Get one of the Bell retro lids, they’re pretty cool, modern but look old.
Who will you be talking to on the intercom? Phone holder…?
Ride the bike and enjoy it, stick your phone in your pocket and return calls when you get there!
Realistically I wouldn’t be looking at my phone that’s true, intercom is to speak with my passenger aka 10 yr old brat who I have just had a spending spree buying her kit before mine. Who will you be talking to on the intercom? Phone holder…?

Don't spend the money on tat that doesn't make a difference to how it rides.
Get the YSS fork upgrade kit. Those PD valves make a MASSIVE difference to front end feel on a damper rod setup. Also don't listen to the utter ste that Stuart Fillingham sports (you need to drill the damper rods out).

Get a quadlock and cheap phone for it. Since I've been riding I've explored loads of new roads and having to pull over to check my phone when I was lost was annoying. I got a sub £100 phone and tether it to the one in my pocket and just run waze so dont get any calls or messages. Having speed camera alerts also makes riding new roads more relaxed.

Its excitement mixed with a little fear if I’m honest. This is my 50th birthday prezzie to myself, now while a woman never needs permission to do anything I have yet to mention this bike to my 83 yr old dad who will probably not be to happy I will tell him, it’s just that when I tell him it will be getting pushed off the back of a van.
When I did DAS in '06 and rocked up with a Fazer dad was torn between worry and sheer envy. Since getting a bike again (47th birthday ) the 80yo is stuck in the worry camp, oh well.Nearly four years later and I've started going out with IAM, firmly convinced it's the best "accessory" you could get. The experience is also making me even more enthusiastic, which is worrying the wallet....
There are plenty of retro styled lids out there, I quite like the look of the AGX X-3000, especially in Barry Sheene colours. Infinity are currently knocking them out in a variety of colour schemes for about £260.
Hope you love the new bike.
Take a look at Tec bike parts too https://www.tecbikeparts.com/products/models/royal...
They develop a lot of their own parts and I'm sure they have their own YouTube channel as well which the use to document upgrades etc ..?
The world is your lobster as far as retro lids go, take a look on sportsbike shop, helmet City etc ... and see what floats your boat.
For me? I'd keep your phone well away from the bars. Riding a bike is about getting away from all that rubbish, stick it in your pocket, forget about emails, texts, Instagram, and all that other distracting nonsense and just enjoy the bike.

Nothing better than just getting out exploring on your bike
Congratulations on the RE.
If you’re going to mount your phone (for satnav obviously) then the quad lock is quite good but the vibration damper is absolutely essential, especially on something vibey like the RE.
As for a helmet, go and try a few on and get a feel for what fits. Slight pressure when you try it on will turn into a headache and torture after an hour on the bike.
Also consider some new riding kit, protection has come on a long way in the last few years.

Looks great!
I would go on an RE specific forum and look for a list of must have upgrades. My Dad had an RE and there was a top 5 of stuff that must be done to make it more reliable. Do those first.

And congrats OP, bought myself an Interceptor as a 50th present, also chrome tank, lovely thing.
Congrats, the bike looks great!
I'm also coming out of (more recent) retirement and have a 2017 Ducati Scrambler Full Throttle on the way. Equally excited and was up til 1am Friday night purchasing all sorts!
Re: helmets, I spent a decent amount of time looking for a retro lid as well. I was looking at full-face and settled on the AGV X3000. I do really like the look of the Bell Bullitt (especially with the bubble visor which I think is awesome), but my last (and only) lid was an AGV and fitted perfectly. The colour I went for was also about £100 cheaper than the Bell.
This is where I got my AGV from: https://www.motocentral.co.uk/brands/agv-moto/agv-...
