Can anyone recommend a pair that will shift this bolt? I’ve tried cutting a slot to use a screwdriver and then creating an edge and tapping it with a punch, no luck with either. If I can’t get some grips that’ll shift it, then I’m going to somehow need to weld a nut on. Also gave it a good soaking with Plusgas over the preceding week.

Thanks

That's nasty, cant see you getting a grip on that, grind off with a Dremel and then drill out the rest with and angle drill, if you can get an angle drill in, looks doubtful .

I would spend all week trying to get a grip on it with heat .

File some flat edges either side and get a spanner on it?

You could try with a small set of stilsons, failing that, drill it out with an angle drill, or a die grinder.

You could try some needle nose vise grips, only 10 or 12 quid and handy to have.

I would just drill it out from underneath then put a slightly bigger nut and bolt righthrough the hole then trim off excees thread , or if the offending bolt is small say 5mm drill it out then rivet it back together from undearneath

Yes, I agree with this.

Good call, unless it is a self tapper, which I think it is, you will not get it cleanly drilled from below, I though similar.

Perhaps using a hacksaw blade with a little tape around it for grip to get the head either flat sided of off is easiest

If it is a self taper drilling right next to it would probably still loosen it.

Op, where are you based? I can mig weld a bar on to it if you are near guildford.

Blowtorch the head then hammer and chisel, a well positioned hit to crack it loose.

It's probably welded in place for eu anti-tamper regs, so I would get going with a die grinder.

+1 for the die grinder.

As for grips, Knipex Cobra Pliers are hands down the best grips of all the ones I have bought/inherited over the years. Very handy to have in the toolbox for stuck bolts and stuff, and even if you have to do some plumbing jobs around the house

If it’s not welded in, a Knipex Pliers Wrench would be my first port of call. This Pliers Wrench has flat sides (it won’t round off the fastener), and it multiplies twentyfold the force you can exert.

Irwin BOLT-GRIP and a spanner would be good in such a confined space, but I suspect the head on that is a bit too far gone.

That’s a kind offer, thanks. I’m up in Herts though so a little far.

If it comes to welding, there are a handful of guys I could use that aren’t too far, just trying to stick with the DIY option if I can.

No worries. I find the welding also helps as heat is your friend with stuck things.
