I've ordered up some new jeans to try on and here's what I'm finding so far (might help out someone else buying now)

Please bear in mind this is coming from a guy in his mid 50's, so I may not be as fashion conscious as some of you out there laugh
I'm a perfect 33W 35 L for normal trousers, so have to either up or down a waist size, and sometimes find it difficult to get trousers long enough.

Roadskins single layer AAA Taranis 34W long : (32W was a tight fit so went up a size)

Seems a good fit on me, slimmer profile through seat and thighs than the Hoods without being to tight. Does taper towards hem to give a slightly slim finish but manages to go over mid length retro boots. Generous leg length so no problems there. I've bought these knowing they wont give as much protection as double layer (but hell, last year I was riding in an old pair of Levis biglaugh), but there only to be used riding my old triumph scrambler, so casual local riding in the summer at very sedate speeds. You could pop out the armor and wear to the bub and no one would now they are PPE. These are keepers !

Hoods: 34W 35 L Slim fits (32W was almost perfect, but the legs were to skinny)

Seems baggier around the seat and thighs than the Roadskins (having said that the lady at Hood told me over the phone they were coming up slightly bigger at the moment and I have gone up a waist size to get a less closer fit in the legs). Look very well made, very very warm, so great for spring and autumn, wouldn't want to wear in the summer. Plenty leg length to choose from. These would be for the sports touring bike that I'd obviously ride a bit faster and for longer. I think they'd be very comfy on the bike, but you wouldn't want to wear them down the pub like the roadskins if that's important too you, but you do have the benefits of that extra protection.

Hoods 32W 35L relaxed fit

Very generous cut. You'd need lower legs like Geoff Capes to fill them out. Just to loose and baggy for me, and I don't like tight fitting jeans !

So to sum up (and there are other makes out there I haven't tried) I'll keep the roadskins as they hit the mark for summer riding on a slower bike. The Hoods... I'll have to think about these over the weekend and decide if I want to return them. I just think they'll be too hot to wear in the summer on the Ducati which is when I want the extra protection.

I'm even thinking of trying out leather touring trousers (which I haven't worn for over 10 years !) , maybe they'll fill the role better than double layer jeans in hot weather ?

Anyway, this is just my ramblings..... beer

Check out Motocap for some proper abrasion test results and the Bennetts Bike Social YouTube video which came out recently.

I bought a pair of PMJ Deux from sportsbikeshop.co.uk which fit well but I don't fancy crash testing them! I'm a similar leg length BTW.

i have ixon single layer jeans for commuting and casual rides. the armour zip pocket is very stealth, easy to slip in and out in the office, they look just like regular jeans otherwise.

I’ve got a pair of Knox jeans that are my favourite, good thing about them is that you can get the knee armour out without taking them off. Very comfortable, fully lined BUT the sizing is all over the place. I ended up with a 34 inch waist, when I would normally take a 36-38 inch. Made me feel good coming out of shop!

See: MotoCAP jeans tests

And: Bennets video on motorcycle jeans – the truth

I wouldn’t buy a pair of jeans without checking them first.

Well they were eye opening tests, good to see someone cut through the bullst and give actual results!
