I don't need knee down sliders, I don't need 1970s shiny leather slack style pants. Nor £400 pants!

Just something that has flex points, comfy, doesn't take an age to wear in and maybe looks not bad style wise.

Must have good pelvic protection.

Anything recognised like this as the basic go to pants?

RST is a good all round vfm choice.

A pair of plain alpinestars or Dainese would be my first choice for fit assuming 250-300 is Ok.

Fit matters more than anything else (e.g., the trousers should be snug enough to prevent the knee armour from rotating out of place). New leathers will stretch about ten percent, so it's worth buying them reasonably tight.

MotoCAP has rated several leathers, and it's worth browing MotoCAP's test results for protection and breathability. The RST GT CE pants score highly.

Regarding budget, Scrubbers Reloved Shop and eBay can have some utter bargains. I trust Scrubbers for second-hand gear. They have refused to sell my kit when it wasn't up to their (high) standard! But if you buy used leathers, I recommend cleaning and 'feeding' the leather (e.g., Duckswax) before using it

All leather trousers look utterly ridiculous style wise so that isn't really a factor. Would water resistance be an advantage?

Some Furygan leathers are water resistant. But if you want genuinely waterproof leathers, I’d look at BMW’s Atlantis and Furka clobber (it’s pricey, but BMW Atlantis bargains can be had on eBay).

Leather trousers are timelessly stylish – mine often draw admiring glances biggrin
