Hi all, up until Saturday I had a 2003 Aprilia Tuono, which j loved, and had all sorts of plans for, but somebody pulled out on me and it will be written off I imagine as the front of the frame is smashed in.

So I'll need a new bike and while its tempting to just get a similar age Mille as I know the bikes well, there are surely other decent bikes. Prices at the moment seem all over the place which makes looking difficult. I think I want a 2004 R1 as I want o have a proper sports bike before I'm too old (I'm 32 and ache already). I only do fun rides out and want to get more into trackdays, I managed to do mallory twice last year.

Any other ideas for bikes this price? Anyone gone from an old aprilia to a 1000 IL4 and can tell me about the comparison?

I went from a v2 Tuono to a 2004 GSXR 750. Did 20k miles on it and only sold it when it got too uncomfortable.

The gsxr was my first sports bike and I did 140 on it within 20 minutes of having it without realising. On the right roads a sports bike feels right but you will be going fast on it as a result. They feel great at speed which just eggs you on.

I’d consider a 2004/5 Zx10r in that price bracket too. A k5/6 gsxr 1000 is the pick of that era but they have a halo cost too.

Can’t go wrong with a 5vy r1 if you find a good one.

I wouldn’t discount a k4 gsxr 1000 or k4 on 750 for bang per buck.
