I'm on the lookout for a small, say 15 liter size tail bag for carrying gear for a day out. (Putting on my 47 liter top box is great for a weekend away, but overkill just for a day out)

Requirement's are:

It straps to the pillion seat or top box rack easy., but securely.
Shower proof.
Shoulder strap to carry off the bike if required too.
Clean design with out too may other straps or hooks dangling everywhere.

Any suggestions ?

Cheers

And mine - look at the US-10 or US-20.

I have a small top box, about 26 litres I think, I wouldn't be without it, even days out, just so useful. Big enough for a helmet and gloves or a bag of shopping or fish and chips take out on the way home. I've this weekend, bolted it direct to the KTM bracket which lowers it by at least and inch and brought it forward by a couple of inches.

I've got Kriega bags but they are a faff to keep strapping on and off, especially of you park in a town and go to a restaurant, you can lock a top box and walk away but the soft luggage isn't quite as safe. Top box can be opened easily but people assume it's secure. I'd not go back to Kriega unless I had to.

I use one of these.
It’s from a company called Autokicker. They come in various sizes and seem to be good quality. Mines been used for 5 years and is still in good condition.

+1
A bike without a top box is a massive faff.

Plus one on the Kriega US-20. Only bad side is its easily nicked without the need for a knife. And they are bloody expensive.

This! You already have the topbox mount, why not use it?

Alternatively if you just want something small just to keep your wallet and phone in, take a look at SW-Motech Pro or Givi Tank Lock tank bags, they have a mounting ring that fits to your filler cap and then you can get small bags from 5 liters or so that lock on to the ring and don't touch the tank. You can even get them with a 12v fitting to charge your phone in the bag.

Just ignore the physics and the impact on the bikes dynamics and get a top box!

Have Kriega US10, US20 and US30 which I use regularly depending what I need to carry and been very happy with them. No desire for a topbox at all here!

I sold all my hard luggage about 2 years ago.

Now just use a combination of Kriega US30, a couple of US5s and a LOMO roll bag with Rok Straps. Better than any big boxes in my opinion.

Whilst I'm sure many will scorn, I CBA with soft luggage and the top boxes are all so big

I bolted a Dewalt drill box to my SM - big enough to take lunch, coffee and waterproofs - cost £20ish

Cheers for the suggestions so far.

The Kriega stuff although well made is expensive and looks a bit "strappy" because of its construction.

I could get a 30 liter Givi top box as Id guess it would fit the givi mount I have. Would still be a bit on the large size for what I need.

Oxford do a a range of tail packs I'll look at too.

Like I say its just for a day out, but being an older rider I tend to take some stuff "just in case"

Sweatshirt (in case it gets cold biggrin)
Maybe waterproofs, just in case ......
Flask of coffee
Bottle water
Spare gloves
Bike lock
Reading glasses
Etc... etc....

Might even check out eBay and get something used, just in case it gets nicked of the bike frown

I commuted into London for 6 years with a Kriega US-20 on the pillion seat. I parked in on-street bike parking spaces and the US-20 was never touched. (Had my waterproofs in it and was used for the locks when they weren't securing the bike.) I can't say such a set-up would always be 100% secure but my experience suggests the fear of theft is significantly greater than the likelt reality.

Had Oxford tailback. They are a pain as use elastic straps for mounting. Need protection under the straps when against bodywork. They don't just clip on and off. I changed to Kreiga. The bags just clip on and off. Mouting straps secured under the seat, so really quick and easy

Have a look at LOMO. Company run by a Mate. Seem to be doing well...

You always say this but what you also always fail to remember is that we and most of the people on the OG trips have a significantly greater effect on the bike's dynamics through years of debauchery, laziness and until recently (at least for me) a very strong reluctance to accept what the laws of nature have inflicted upon us in the absence of reasonable self control and regular exercise smile

You can choose to have a top box or not. Choosing to have a rider or not is a little more challenging.
