Agreed on the plug and a heat cycle is somewhat different to a plug chop or dyno run and not an indicator for how the motor is fueling

The title of the post was supposed to be “DT175 Plug Chop”. Somehow i s****d that up. Plug is after plug chop. Think will do a few more miles and repeat the test.

Are you running premix or auto lube, I got my pump refurbed as I thought it was running too lean plus a bit of security as I presume it was the original pump from 1979.

Pretty pointless trying to perform a plug chop with modern fuels. Also a plug chop is a very specific process, if not done correctly it's a waste of time.
If you're simply looking for a guide to the correct jetting, follow the manual the first instance. Given the age of the bike it'll be a very basic carb with pilot, needle and main jets and an air screw. Make sure the air filter is properly clean and sealed as well as no air leaks in the carb rubbers, especially downstream of the carb.
From there it's a simple process

I did the plug chop process correctly, but didn’t know it was a pointless process. Thanks for that as I won’t be chasing shadows with plug chop readings.
