Although the XCP rust blocker seems to work well it attracts a st load of road grime. Has anyone had a go at ceramic coating their own bike? If so what product did you use? Not willing to spend the £300+ I was just quoted to have someone do it as I'd rather just stick with XCP.

I’ve had my last 3 bikes (all GSes) ceramic coated. The first one I had done privately by an independent. The last 2 were done by BMW dealers… they sold me what they call ‘Moto GP’ ceramic coating…. clearly they have a deal going on and get some kick back of some kind.
Truth is that the application is only as good as the technique used by the person applying it. The first bike was noticeably easier to keep clean than the next 2 done by BMW. In short, ceramic coating does work, but make sure you get it done by someone who takes their time and knows what they are doing.

I use this stuff on my vehicles: https://www.amazon.ca/Gtechniq-Liquid-Crystal-Conc...

and put it on the bikes too. It does seem to make washing them easier for sure.

Had both of mine coated by local independent who took great care … so far getting great value from it. Cost was negotiated down to £90 for (allegedly) up to 3 year protection thanks to 5 mates ordering at the same time

I've used the G-Technic stuff on cars before, but not on my bikes.

However.
I always get my bikes coated in IGL's ceramic products. I'm lucky that my mate is a detailer by trade and I'm an ex-detailer so I generally do the prep work with him and just let him apply the product as they can be a little finicky and you need to be careful with some products around seals and such like as some products can dry them out.

We always use their Eclipse on the metal and plastic parts and Kenzo on paintwork.

If you want your bike to continue looking good then I'd definitely reccomend paying the £300 for getting it done properly by a certified installer.

Hello,

If I may ask, is there any difference between car application and bikes?

There just seems to be plenty of car places near me, but no one advertising for bikes.

Thanks

For the paintwork and metal surfaces, no.

As mentioned above, where you do need to be careful on bikes is around the seals. Some products can dry out and damage seals.
I've seen a seal on the rear shock of a KTM go before due to having product applied to it.
