CBF500.

I have two pipes from the top of the airbox connecting to the cylinder head (assuming these are the breather). There is one on the side going towards the PAIR apparatus at the front of the engine. Is this the only part I need to block off?

Why would you want to?

Mr Honda spent a lot of time, effort and money designing it in the first place, I'm pretty sure he knows a lot more about it than any group of bikers on the internet...

Read up on it before replying and maybe you'll find out. I'm far from the first. Maybe I should remove all my aftermarket suspension and brakes while I'm at it Honda apparently knew so much better??

I have an aftermarket exhaust and the Air thats being forced into it by the PAIR system is causing a LOT of popping on decel and it's very annoying. Disabling is stops that.

Yes, block the inlet running from the airbox to the PAIR system to stop its function, might cause an EML on the dash mind, depending how clever it is.

I think you can get an eliminator for it (which is possibly just a fancy resistor)

If it’s anything like the system on my RC51, here is a link to a how to remove:

Not sure if you can also do the ‘flapper mod’ that usually goes with it too?

That disconnects the flap that restricts airflow to get the bike passed certain governmental restrictions.

Getting the bike back to the way Mr Honda wants it rather than the BS needed for some government stamp!

I also had extra (4kg!) of emissions BS to remove off my bike due to it being a “non 49 state” bike… which was more of a pain… but anyway I digress…

Hope the link helps out even if it’s for a different bike…

Maybe, for Biker9090 a modified CBF500 is best for what he wants to do at the moment? Maybe he just likes it....

Let's scrap all those old Vincents, BSA RGS, RC30s etc. and buy something better....whatever that might be.....

I don't know anything about Honda CBF500 but my Son had a Yamaha YBR125 with the secondary air system that dumps air into the exhaust on the overrun to reduce emissions which, presumably is the same sort of thing? It made it pop and fart when slowing down (made worse by a corroded exhaust with a few pinholes) which was bloody annoying.

So I removed all the associated crap; valve, hoses etc and plugged the hole into the exhaust port to make it a 'normal' engine. I can't claim that it was any faster or more economical etc. but it didn't make it any worse plus it got a (small) weight loss and it certainly ran much more smoothly afterwards.

I'd do the same to any other bike I owned if it had such a setup.

Thanks man.

Nah no fancy flapper on this one haha.

I like pops and bangs but it can be pretty annoying after a 300 mile journey lol.

Should this just be the one large pipe from the airbox? There are two small ones on the inlet that also go there or are used to balance the carbs?

Thank you. It was bought as a project for £540 but I've kept it as it's such simple fun and much less likely to bite me than my vfr1200f
