My great uncle Bill was an AA man who was asked to pose for some publicity photos. He called on his nephew, my uncle Bill, to pose as the stranded motorcyclist.

Late 1940s at a guess.

Excellent - that would have been back when the AA man saluted AA members.
I have black and white pic's of the old chap that look similar.

Smashing. The requirement for AA and RAC patrolmen to salute members ended in 1961 apparently. I had to look it up as I can remember feeling very important when dad's car received a salute. I was seven in 1961. Great uncle Bill was an AA man before the war as well and, like many uniformed men, was drafted into the war effort as a Military Policeman. A smaller and more amiable MP would be hard to imagine.
