Scottish Motorcycle Show 2022
Was planning on going this weekend but looking at the list of exhibitors, it's mostly independent stalls and hardly any manufacturer stands. CCM, KTM & Triumph are there, but Suzuki and Yamaha are seemingly only represented by Saltire and (boy-racer & pensioner killer) Duffus. No Honda, no Ducati, nothing. Utterly lame.... why even bother with this so-called 'show' at all! £15 entry and they'll be wanting another £5+ for the privilege of parking.
I'm after a new commuter so was keen to see the Tracer 7, X-Max 300, Forza 350, CBR650F and NC750X. Will be in London in a fortnight so will save myself a wasted Saturday in Edinburgh and will go & look at a much better selection of bikes at a dealer or two instead.
Somebody shoot this 'show' & put it out of its misery.

But a nice selection of classic bikes in the 'Classic bike pavilion' (which I think is the Lowland hall), plus quite a few of them getting fired-up outside (weather permitting). Far better mooching about there than all this new-fangled plastic/carbon/unobtanium tat
I've the '47 Indian Chief there on the VMCC stand, and the Triumph X-75 Hurricane on the TR3OC stand - anyone there, say Hi

Just reading up on past indiscretions and Duffus does seem to be a fairly awful specimen and a fairly crap wheel man Was planning on going this weekend but looking at the list of exhibitors, it's mostly independent stalls and hardly any manufacturer stands. He does indeed sound like a right c**t.Edited by poo at Paul's on Thursday 10th March 11:31
And Judge Lady Dorrian is not much better - effectively siding with him twice. You’d think cash was exchanged, he has some sort of dirt on her or was f**king her once.
This Sunday it's a choice between going to the Scottish Bike Show or the laborious task of swapping over my chuckies in my front garden. As you can imagine it's an easy choice.........
I got some lovely bags 40mm graphite slate from Bargains and More, they'll look good under my ferns.

There are so many different stories about how he has ripped people off, sold bikes he knew were fked, walked away from issues when people have complained etc it's amazing he has stayed in business so long.
He's an arrogant wker, a total tosser.

Duffus is a horrible person and an absolute crook; how he has never ended up getting his face filled in I just don't know.

Saw a Fazer he was selling a few years ago. Phoned up & spoke to the man himself. It was a short conversation... curt, rude, and seemed to think he was doing me a favour in lowering himself to speak to a mere customer. There are so many different stories about how he has ripped people off, sold bikes he knew were fked, walked away from issues when people have complained etc it's amazing he has stayed in business so long.

Last couple of bikes I bought were from Dobles & Padgetts. Doble's service was st but I'll take that over st service & an extra £500 from Twa Wheels in Edinburger. Padgetts were great (again), whilst Twa Wheels wanted an extra £300 & had a piss poor attitude. Saltire would rather sell you a pair of arseless chaps & a beard-trim than a fairly priced bike. Some of the central-belt independents haven't faired much better... the loanheid firestarter, the Leith Links bunch that used to finger-tighten the bolts on their Chinese 125s, and quite a few others.
We're not well served by bike shops in central Scotland & the industry around here seems to be a magnet for chancers, criminals & the incompetent. I honestly miss the PCX I owned, & the cheap & cheery local scooter shops in Spain that would book you in & fix your scooter within the hour whilst you went for a coffee.
Went today. Complete rip off.
Place was half empty, stalls still full of st and over priced tat.
Shouldn’t have been any more than £5.
Very few deals to be done, my mate tried to buy a couple of the black metal signs and the seller wouldn’t do it as he was saving them for another show.
So came all the way to Scotland not to sell things, pathetic.

Took a wander through to the ‘main’ hall and it was indeed pretty poor. But the classic bike hall was good I thought. But very poorly signed and I guess a lot of folks didn’t even know it was there. I had a good day mooching about the older stuff [and chin-wagging with the older folks], but I guess if I’d gone to see new bikes I would have been disappointed.

So once I get my Fazer back on the road, where IS good to meet and get your bike worked on?
Mine goes to Padgetts in Batley. Not the cheapest but they do it right and I sometimes tie it in with an overnight stay & night out in Leeds. If you're tied to having your bike sorted in Scotland for convenience reasons then I would recommend staying clear of all of the Edinburgh & Glasgow main-stealers. There's mean't to be a couple of decent indys in Fife & Stirlingshire but I'm not familiar with them. Happier sticking to what I know & who I trust... even if it involves a bit of a trek.Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
