Anyone got a supermoto pitbike they use for winter training/fun? (Basically a motox pitbike with slicks, bobbins and handlebar/lever protectors in case anyone isn't familiar )

Bought a cheap one to try out a few months back, seem to be popular and are great fun, so just wondering if anyone on here has one and what tracks you ride at?

M4 Karting, kinsham and Stretton seem to be closest to me in South Wales...

Yup, south wales based too, we run a few of them, great fun, we use a mixture of them, all have been repaired and had everything replacement over the last few years, everything is dirt cheap though, slicks last for ages, I'd stay away from anything like stomp etc.

We use M4, kinsham is great, Clay, and most of the others, but tend to stick with M4 in the winter months and Kinsham when the weathers better, started as something to keep the boredom at bay over winter a few years ago, we soon got the bug and now race in BMB, Cool Fab and Freetech, it's a great way to dip your toes into racing if you've never done it before.

I'm in derbyshire so lucky enough to have a few options. We tend to do fatcats, stretton and lockwell hill (limited days due to noise) fairly regularly. Theres an indoor night at wakefield karting too.

Great things for the money to be fair and a good laugh. Everyone who comes with us and has a go usually ends up buying one!

Ah cool, do you go to m4 on a weds eve then? What bike have you got?

I've just sold my first one that I bought cheap, and have bought an amr 140r, which is basically a stomp, so is there anything specific I need to watch out for?

They seem to have good reviews, and like you said most of the parts are dirt cheap and the engine is generally the same across all makes, so hoping I haven't made a bad decision?!

Yes, that's basically what I did, bought a cheap one to have a go on, realised I like it, so flogged that one and bought an amr 140r, due next week hopefully.

What do you ride? I see the crf150 is the high end fave for pitbikes, also the ktm 2t as well, and the bucci/ohvale for minimoto, but they are proper money!

Similar story here, I bought a 2nd hand m2r which confirmed I enjoyed it, sold it on an bought a symoto 140 when they had just come out. Put a mikuni carb on it and a formula front brake, very happy with it. From what I gather the amr is very similar spec to the symoto?

Yeah I think you are right there, other than the amr is a crf70 frame, but I think symoto are generally crf110?

Decided on the 70 as its smaller for places like m4...

Yeah we normally go to M4 on Wednesday, works been crazy though so haven't been for a few weeks.

We have run a pretty much everything by now, from stomps, bucci, symoto, M2R which is what I currently use, although nothing on it is oem, to Ohvale.
All have their pros and cons in fairness, Stomps I just found fall apart quicker, best become good friends with threadlock regardless of what you get.

Definitely get a decent carb, mikuini are best, from Parker etc, makes a big difference with right jetting, steel gaskets too.

In reality the best part about these is that it's just so cheap to repair and replace parts, makes it far more fun and carefree than big bikes.

Some onboard from Kinsham,

Great footage, excited to get mine now!

I know kinsham do private hire, 3 hours for 45quid so defo going to give that a go I think just to get used to the bike without being in other people's way.

I had a nibbi carb on my last bike, but it came with it so I didn't do any of the setting up or anything, is it easy to do yourself? I think the bike comes with a molkt carb as standard, not sure if they are any good or not, I have only heard or mikuni and nibbi...

I've spec'd a thumb brake on mine, so what do you think of yours? Never used one myself before.

Also, yeah I get your point about thread lock biggrin

I go to Stretton, Whilton Mill, Red Lodge mostly. Stomp Motard.

Great training for racing, and cheap.

Was at Stretton on Tuesday...awful day...sunshine, warm, me, my girlfriend, and two other people, think they were called Alex Lowes and Leon Haslam or something. Really slow.

ok. I am now interested in this after watching the above youtube link.

Anywhere in the North West to do this? and rent a bike for a few hours?

Any recommendations on "beginner" bikes or where to research this? assuming youtube is the go to?

Also intrested after watching that video!
Anyone know if there's anywhere in the southeast you can ride these?
What sort of set up costs are you talking fir a cheap bike? Is it just bike and slicks or are there hidden costs?

As to costs guys,

You can spend anywhere from 500-1000 on a sorted second hand bike, or more for a new one.

I'd recommend a nice 140cc, I use an M2R from funbikes, yger or symoto and CW, things will break, fall off, need replacing etc regardless of what you get, thankfully everything is dirt cheap which is why its so fun..

Slicks last for ages, about 120 for a full set. I've run mine for almost two years, a ridiculous amount of use including 2 full racing weekends with 4 races in one day.

I'm currently uploading footage of our first ever race at Pembrey in BMB, we managed a best position of 16th and 17th, but the fun we had was just indescribable, I don't think I stopped laughing throughout the weekend.

Almost 50 people on the grid and a tight first corner, hilarious fun and we can't wait to go again.

A decent Carb is extremely important, most use Mikuni, you can gain more power with steel headgaskets etc, although I'm not in it to win anything, literally just for fun.

No hidden costs, just get bike, fit slicks, pay the 20 quid or whatever it'll be for where you're going, and ride.

You'll of course need proper boots, lid, gloves and leathers.

Here's so onboard from our First Race back last year in the BMB championship round at Pembrey Circuit.

It was a epic weekend, we weren't completive with the front runners at all, we lacked the experience, power and would need drastic weight loss programs for that, but had some good battles mid pack, our best results were 16th and 17th, not bad with a grid of almost 50 lol.

Rentapitbike do m4 karting and some other places down south I believe, they'll be findable on Facebook.

Realistically you're talking about 1k+ for a decent second hand package. As with alot of things the costs for upgrades are incremental. I spent about £2200 on a new bike, spare wheels and tyres, front brake upgrade, mikuni carb, thumb brake and renthal chain a couple of years ago but you dont necessarily need to. Tyres are a fairly big outlay (£120-170 a set depending on compound, tread etc) but last ages. A brand new engine is £350.
I've only seen one of our groups break an engine and that was due to it having a standard flywheel on, finally snapped off the end of the crank after hard use. Dont be tempted to buy an offroader and convert it, much simpler to get a sm intended model.

Once you've got a sorted bike and riding kit the only costs are £30 -£40 for a trackday, fixing crash damage and in all honesty theres plenty of cheap tempting tat available for them too.

Once you've got the bike

Yep. Jake Dixon and Sylvain Guintoli are regulars there too.

As for the 'slow' bit, not, they weren't. But they were both on Ohvale 190's whereas I was on a normal pit bike with a 140 engine.
