Oxford Mondial Advanced clothing, any good?
Discussion
The above mentioned Jacket and trousers seems to get pretty good reviews. Just wonder if anyone on here have been using this gear and if you rate it highly ( especially for the very reasonable price level ) . I started my search by looking at Rukka and Klim gear but in all honesty I only ride Spring to early Autumn so hard to justify huge price on gear. Cheers
I bought some Oxford Gear last winter,
It said it is waterproof, it is, it’s comfortable, I assume safe as it’s rated as safe as my A* gear that was 3 times the price, let’s in water in the slightest shower despite being “waterproof”, is a bit of a crap fit, and if it even looks at some Velcro bobbles and catches making it look like it’s years old.
In summary I would buy Oxford gear again, it’s quite large fitting so try it on first as you may need a size down, I found I did.

Watching this with interest. My Alpinestars laminated textiles gear is no longer as waterproof as it should be, and from past experience with several brands, that means it will leak like a colander before much longer. My AS gear was also quite expensive and I've only had it about 3-4 years, which is disappointing considering that 2 of them it's been hanging up in the garage most of the time due to Covid and WFH. So I've not been particularly impressed with it, and won't be buying their stuff again.
As per the OP, the new Oxford textiles have had very good reviews in Bike, Ride, etc - and are very well priced for the spec.

I have Mondial textiles. I've done about 8000 miles in them. No major issues and kept me dry. I've done a couple of 1000 mile days in them.
Its got lots of vents to keep you reasonably cool in the summer and the liner is removable.
Only complaint is that I need a chest brace to keep the braces up as they fall down my shoulders. Solved with a couple of clips.
Try them on as they are sized on the small side.

Has the gear been cleaned and reproofed in that time? I have AS gear that I have had since 2016 and I wash and reproof (using Nikwax cleaner and reproofer) and they are still waterproof. As per the OP, the new Oxford textiles have had very good reviews in Bike, Ride, etc - and are very well priced for the spec.
I live in Surrey and ride into London Mon-Fri, year round. Have had my Oxford Advanced jacket for nearly 3 years. Colour has faded a bit, and the bottom of the sleeve cuffs are a touch frayed. Otherwise I could not recommend it highly enough, breathable for summer and warm enough through the winter (with just a baselayer and thin fleece). Always keeps me dry. I'm no longer going to be commuting but if I was I'd also get the trousers. 3 year warranty as well. Absolute no brainer in my opinion and miles better than my previous Alpinestars kit, I'm on my 4th (under warranty) pair of Rukka gloves and I don't think much of them at all and they weren't cheap!

That’s great to hear. Thanks very much for your detailed reply , cheers ssray said:
I bought the hinterland jacket
Oxford's Hinterland looks like a significantly better choice – presuming protection is a consideration – as it's AA-rated, whereas the Mondial only gets an A rating.mikey_b said:

I agree with the Nikwax Tech Wash advice, plus a reproof (Grangers or Nikwax) and tumble dry on low heat. Alternatively, it would be cheaper (compared to buying new stuff) to get your gear cleaned and reproofed professionally. Scrubbers is fantastic for reviving textiles and leathers alike.
I ordered the Mondial Jacket and trousers from Sportsbikeshop , but unfortunately I didn’t find the sizing or fit for me very good to be honest. The Jacket is quite short in the body ,and the neck area very low and wide. Seems good quality , but sad to say it’s not for me. So the search continues and becomes more expensive I guess
Why not try an RST Axiom Airbag Jacket (currently under £200 at SportsBikeShop, plus a £10/month subscription for the airbag)? Bennetts reviewed it: RST Axiom airbag jacket review.
Or the RST Pro Series Adventure-X Airbag jacket, which is £100 more but looks like a significant step up in comfort, etc. It gets excellent reviews.

Worth checking with Gore-Tex on their guarantee. I know they are very good at replacing things that don't work as well as they should....

It's been wet lately, Tuesday and Wednesday (my only commuting days now) and I have stayed dry. It was last washed over the summer but I gave it a thorough spray with reproofer last week (can't remember which but a brand I recognised) so hopefully that has been good enough. I'll bear the Scrubbers revive service in mind though if it starts happening again, at £120 for jacket and trousers it's probably worth a shot before shelling out for new gear entirely.
I'm glad Mikey's keeping dry

I found Scrubbers was well worth it. It was highly cost-effective in the medium term because Scrubbers added years of life to my gear. Incidentally, they're a good source of used clothing, too (better than eBay because Scrubbers is picky about what secondhand gear it's prepared to sell).Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
