What bike can I ride ( old timer)
Discussion
The rules seem rather unclear on the size of bike I can legally ride .
I have only ever taken a moped test , back in the seventies .
I currently own a Suzuki AP50 which is nice to have and like the one I had back then but is a little slow in modern traffic and hence doesn’t get used a lot .
I would like to upgrade to a Gt125 but these seem difficult to find whereas the Gt185/Gt250 are more available.
So I have a moped test from the seventies and a full car license but I’m uncertain what a can ride .
My license seems to show a cat A bike test but it’s nothing I gave ever taken !
Anyone shed any light on this and what would I have to do to ride a either a 125 or a 185/ 250 ?
Thanks. Dave

You have an A Moped license so can ride a moped without L plates and with a pillion.
You can ride a 125cc on L plates on your full car license after you take a CBT
All above it correct. You can ride a 125cc on L plates on your full car license after you take a CBT
Just to add though if you wanted to ride a 185 or 250cc, you'd need to complete your Direct Access and pass the motorcycle test.
For a 125 you need to do a CBT and use L plates.
Your licence only applies to sub 50cc.

It’s the same tests (Mod 1 and Mod 2) for all classes A1, A2 and A. The only variable is the size of bike you use. You might as well do the test on a big bike so you can ride anything you want, rather than do A1 and be restricted to 125cc, or A2 and be restricted to 47bhp. If you do the lower tests and want to move up you would end up doing the tests all over again. You will need to do CBT and Theory test before Mod 1.
