My new bike has side reflectors on the front forks, as understand all new bikes do by law.

However, once purchased, does the law require them? I'm removing mine, I dont ride at night. The look like a stuck on afterthought.

Will my bike be legal? Any laws broken?

A while away, but would it be an mot failure? even an insurance loophole?

I never used to worry about such things. Must be getting old frown

Not a legal requirement for MOTs as only a rear is required.

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-inspection-manual-...

I think they are a legal requirement for bikes sold in Europe which is why they are present on bikes sold in the UK market still.

I can't comment on an insurance issue - but I suspect that it would only arise if someone drove into the side of your parked bike and the insurers thought the removal of the reflectors directly contributed to that? - although that is purely my speculation and not grounded with any knowledge at all!

When I got my 765RS it had side reflectors on the forks, first thing I did was remove them.

Legal requirements and MOT requirements are two different things.

However, no mention of side reflectors in the legislation.

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1989/1796/sche...

See
The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989
SCHEDULE 1 OBLIGATORY LAMPS, REFLECTORS, REAR MARKINGS AND DEVICES
TABLE II Solo motor bicycle and motor bicycle combination

Don't think there's anything more recent, but you can check here
