I am thinking about getting a second bike. I know many of you have two or more machines and I wondered if you had any recommendations for brokers that specialise in multiple bike policies. (Or, for that matter, any stay clear warnings.) My goal is to have my full NCB applied across the policy for two bikes.

Thanks in anticipation.

I have a two bike multi-bike policy with Bikesure on bikes that couldn't be more different, so worth a call.

NCB applies to both as in the OP.

Been with BeMoto for a few years now.

Decent enough people and prices, not had to use the insurance for any issues thankfully.

I do like getting their invoices for 1p for a year's insurance, always makes me smile.. (just the way their system works)

Bikesure last couple of years for 3 bikes, 1 standard, 2 modified. Very convenient once all setup. They are used to having custom/modified bikes. Downside is you are only building up 1 set of NCB.

Cost wise I dont think there is a huge saving over separate policies, perhaps you save having 3 lots of legal cover or helmet/leather cover etc. For me its mostly about convenience and having the same benefits across policies, 1 number to call.

I insure two bikes with Bennetts. They cover most mods as standard and you don't need to declare them. For me it worked out cheaper than individual policies.

I'm in the same boat as OP. Starting to collect bikes again (cycle seems to be every ten years) and I have an eclectic collection forming. Problem is I have a Sports tourer, a classic Italian which is really just for show but it is 2006 so not a proper classic, a big cruiser and now a BIG tourer.

I don't have the first idea how to present these to an insurer and I'm currently with Bennetts!

Does anyone do an old-school riders policy anymore?

BeMoto for me as well.
Insuring 2 bikes currently and asked for a quote to add a third. Quote came back at >£800 for third bike (BMW 1250GS).
Asked them to re-quote as a single policy and it came back this time at <£400.
Apparently my existing multi policy provider doesn't like big BMWs.
As with all things, you need to ask the right questions.......

Not sure what an old school riders policy is.. but I just give the registration numbers of my various and varied bikes and answer a few questions about them.

Why can't you do that?

In the olden days, you could just insure the rider and then ride any bike. Simpler times... I currently have 2 bikes on a policy with Bennett's and a third on a standalone classic policy.

Bemoto for me, I've got a couple of Ducati's which for years Ducati Insurance covered, but year on year their prices rose regardless of increased NCB.

I decided to give Bemoto a call, explained my usage and the quote was halved, never had to claim but so far so good.

I had real trouble getting a multi bike policy as I do not have a garage ... just a fenced gated back garden with 4 ground anchors ... had to get two separate Bennett’s policies in the end. Big pain

I had two bikes insured with ebike. From memory it was £10 to add the second bike to the policy.
They also didnt charge an admin fee for mid term changes to the bike.

The thing that caught us out, was that you could have 2 bikes on a policy, or 2 people insured on a bike, but not 2 people insured on 2 bikes on a policy. And as we ride each others bikes (rarely, but like to be covered in case of emergencies), that ruled us out frown

If anybody finds a multi bike policy which allows multiple people to be covered, I'm interested!

I had a "family fleet" policy like that for about 7 years. Had multiple drivers, cars and bikes on it (up to 5 of each)

It was very convenient once setup, just one renewal each year and you got NCB on each vehicle separately.

However it crept up in price over last couple of years until it was 30% more expensive than separate policies, so I changed back frown

Just to close this thread off; thanks to all of you who gave me recommendations for multiple bike policies and the snippetts of your experiences. I had a number of refusals to quote due to combined value and I turned down a couple of offers due to what I felt were unreasonable ts & cs. In the end, Bennetts came up with the right policy at a good price and ts & cs that I could agree to. So, great service from Bennetts and I would recommend a one to one chat with them if you have an unusual insurance requirement. Usual disclaimers.

Was that a multibike policy from Bennets or just mirrored your NCD from initial policy ?

Bennetts first offer was a partially mirrored policy as they could not find an underwriter that would provide a proper multibike policy. I left that offer open while I spoke to other brokers. When I went back to them they had found an underwriter that would provide a multi bike policy at a better price.

Glad you got a policy. I just moved from Bennetts to BeMoto biggrin (as mentioned on this thread). I wanted to add four bikes to the policy.

1) Bennetts said bikes had to be garaged in a brick-built garage.. BeMoto said a Log Cabin is fine.
2) Bennetts said there would be a £25 adjustment fee and I change bikes all the time so that is a biggie for me.
3) Bennetts were £150 dearer and their policy didn't include leather and lid, and legal and breakdown (inc Green card for 3 months).
4) Bennetts wanted £86 extra for pillion cover across all the bikes. BeMoto was inclusive. 20 years since I carried a pillion but useful to have IMO.

Gutted I lost 6 months NCB on the bikes whilst cancelling mid-term but I think I now have the right policy for me.

Riders policy was an old school policy from the 80's where you paid one simple premium (about 10% extra on the price of the premium for the one bike you were insuring) then you simply called them when you added another bike and all the bikes were covered under the same policy! Their mantra was "You can only ride one bike at once so we charge you one premium".

the cueball said:

You cannot get a riders policy anymore so you have to list all the bikes as you have said, then get stung for them all in one large payment hehe

Still, £50k cover for £700 is pretty good IMO.
