Took a bike for a spin around the block yesterday - just to keep things moving on my classic, get it all up to temperature etc.
Rode around my estate only because they don't salt the roads, so keeping the crap off the bikes. It's a development that evolved over 20 years, the full mix of houses - kind of a mini-town in itself.

Rode down a road, at the roundabout came back on myself.

Was riding at about 30mph only because its an estate, parked cars, kids, respect in residential etc, so nothing wrong. Very slow round the roundabout because the front tyre felt soft and I didn't fancy binning it.

On my way back up that road I notice a woman and her kid looking at me, then spot her phone is in front of her jacket, possibly aiming camera at me? As I rode up the hill I saw the phone pan round following me quite obviously.

Unless she liked old Triumph's I can only presume she's a kill joy with a chip on the shoulder hoping to report me to the police perhaps for riding a bike locally because its not taxed over winter? It is taxed so she's got nothing. Did seem odd, anyone else experienced this?

My son reckons there is some group of kill joys in the US who film performance cars and bikes constantly trying to report them for I don't know what - enjoying life? Apparently the police can't stand them understandably.

Despite the speed did it 'sound fast'?

I've noticed people immediately assume that a loud car or bike is travelling fast. I even recall being pulled over in my friends Honda Prelude by a policeman jumping into the middle of the road - He heard him coming, at 25mph in a residential 30 and started screaming that he will take the car off him etc.

Either way nothing will happen at all.

Maybe she thought it was unusual and possibly stolen ?

Sometimes things are not as they seem

I saw a young lad spit on the bonnet of my car - I was about to run out and throttle him when he then pulled his jumper over his hand and proceeded to "polish it"

I went out "It's the fastest car in the area - and it's in our road !"

Quite possible - its a mk1 Speed Triple, they have a big presence and attract a lot of admiring comments. She looked a bit miserable but who knows.

You're probably being filmed, by somebody or something, every time you go out. I shouldn't worry about the reasons why.. the possibilities are too numerous to make a conclusion.

How bizzarre! I was in tracksuit bottoms and trainers and a coat (as only a slow pootle around) - could have been a "just-in-case" - who knows

For sure - it was just odd the way she did it but at first tried to hide it, then was quite obvious about it when it would have been too late (had I been doing anything stupid) - who knows?!?

I've had this 4-5 times over last couple years

Recently in my 4x4 going down a quiet partially untarmacked road taking my daughter to school. Lady walking her dog got her phone and clearly aimed at my plate. I was legal and did nothing wrong. Never heard anything from police and found it quite bizarre

Had it on the bike on a ride back from a cafe. Through town I do keep to 30ish and they stuck a phone right at me as I was coming towards. I slowed down stopped and pointed directly at him who then put phone in his pocket and walked upwards into a cemetery. Laughed about it on the coms with my lot after. Again no idea why, we were low revs 3-4 of us just riding

Never had anything from it but do question the mindsets of some people

Very interesting! Your experiences are bizzarre, never heard of this kind of thing before.

A friend of mine reckons she probably wanted to film the bike for a Dad/ husband / brother...but her face had a proper "wouldn't ever want to wake up next to that" look about it - she looked quite miserable and sinister. Yep revs were really low, taking my time - always go slow around residential areas, so odd really. Takes all-sorts

We had a Postman who looked really miserable, we were chatting with an elderly neighbour and as the Postie approached she called out

"Here comes happy"

He shouted back "I'm smiling on the inside, it's just my face"

Maybe you made her day biggrin

It does happen. I was similarly stopped by a PC (in 1978!) when I was in my Morris 1000 VAN!

I had just turned right, from rest, at a T-junction in a country town. It was onto a steep hill so had given it a bit of revs. ready to change up. When stopped, I pointed out that I had been in first gear with a maximum speed of what, 10 mph? He then muttered something about "looking for someone in a similar van" and let me go! smile

So, yes, just the sound of the revving A-series engine had prompted a reaction!

Not entirely sure what the OP is asking in the context of SP&L.

Doesn't appear the woman was doing anything illegal, you can record anything in a public place with a few exceptions (upskirting etc) - as others have said we're all recorded on hundreds of dash-cams and CCTV systems every time we go anywhere either on road or on foot. I do agree that having someone point a camera explicitly at you is intimidating though - and I don't like it when the local speed enforcement vigilantes do it to me even though I'm within the limit.

Maybe she thinks you're causing a nuisance. Maybe she fancies you. Maybe she's a nutcase. Impossible to tell.

I have a 99 Speed Triple, also on a standard exhaust. One thing my bike does which I don't really notice whilst riding it is pop and bang on the overrun, even at low speeds and when cold. Some people may consider this loutish or antisocial, although, quite frankly bikers are often considered this by merely being bikers.

People do either seem to love or hate bikes or bikers, I've occasionally had women flashing their boobs at me as I ride past. Which is nice.

Might just be a case of large phone and tiny lady pockets on clothes. My other half has a few winter coats that have shockingly small pockets that even a small purse would struggle to squeeze into. She might have just been one of those people who had their attention grabbed by a motorcycle and followed you. If you're fully road legal then you have nothing to worry about. As above, the likelihood is that you're caught on video every time you go out.

I don't think the op bothered to stop and ask.
Maybe she was 'dominating the street'.

More likely that someone's been riding like a dick so she's seen you and decided to film it in case you do anything naughty.

You can't wait until something happens then get your phone out, unlock it and start filming as the "nuisance" will be gone. Remember most people can't tell the difference between kids on a crosser and bikers on a Speed Triple.
