Hi I just wanted to ask if anyone could advise on best course of action to remove or repair some minor surface corrosion, it seems to be on top of paint but cannot be sure.

Has anyone seen the same it’s on my fireblade and happened after it had been in garage all winter

Thanks I’m advance for reading and any advice you may have

Have you ridden it in the salt?

I can’t tell from the photos whether it’s on the surface or whether something has actually lifted the paint off underneath. How old is the bike and I take it that’s on the swingarm?

If it’s just on the surface then a microfibre cloth with a bit of WD40 or GT85 will clean it up. Then wipe some ACF50 over it, stop it happening again.

Ive seen this a few times, esp on the S1000R /RR

If it is what I think it is, its aluminium oxide corrosion, do the white “spots” have a high point you can flake /knock off?

If so, you can slow the spread of it with any oil applied with a cloth but you wont get it back as it was.

There isnt much paint on these frames so it can happen in a poorly ventilated storage / or if the bike was laid up wet/had roadsalt on it and hasnt been washed down.

Shouldnt happen but it does sadly.

Hi, No wasn’t out in wet let alone salt, however it was in my garage for winters. And yeah it’s on the paint as you say like a small tiny white flake. I’ll try you advice and see where it gets me. It’s just a little annoying as so little miles on it and always stored in the dry but not a heated garage which I think has resulted in the oxidisation. It’s an 05 fireblade and one of the repsol edition.

I hardly ever ride this bike and always jump on my other bike as I was too precious with it.

Just a pity this happened as there is not a signed mark on the bike, my own fault. Have moved it into the house now and going to go ahead and sell it.

Thanks again for all the advice

Bit late I know, but if the garage is relatively weather tight, perhaps invest in a dehumidifier. I did this after a cheap black 'ceramic' exhaust on a previous bike went a similar way. It looked more like big white dots which on close inspection appeared to be pitting.

I also helpfully stopped commuting! But definitely high humidity doesn't help anything. Other than maybe some lizards.

William, sorry to say but this is the fault of the manufacturer. All the other bikes like yours will have the same spots so nothing major to worry about. If you want to get rid of them you'll have to refinish the part which will involve some amount of strip-down depending on how far you want to go.
