Hi folks,

We are starting to plan a trip up to Inverness from Lancashire and I wondered if any of you had any recommendations for places to stay near Edinburgh which would be suitable for 3 loaded up motorbikes. We would rather be around that area to give us a good start to get up to the Highlands.

The next step after that would be between Inverness and Plockton kind of area.

Not sure if the out of control bike theft is still rampant in Edinburger.. but you couldn't pay me enough to park my bike there.

it was pre Covid, maybe someone that lives there could update if the situation is still bad...

Just for context... I had my bike stolen and the Policy officers knew who it was, but were more interested in trying to threaten me with being arrested if I done anything about it/them.

Thankfully a very quick FB plea meant I got my bike back within 2 hours.. that was 3 years ago.

Lochcarron isn't too far from Plockton and near the Bealach. https://www.lochdubh.com/ Stayed here a couple of times and was very good.

Mortonhall caravan and camping have a bike security shelter, only 4 miles (short bus ride) from city center.

We stopped in Malmaison Hotel in Leith when we did the NC 500 last year. No dramas and the 3 x Tigers and a Rocket were still in the car park behind, the next morning

I'd be inclined to find somewhere north of the bridge as the traffic in a morning can be a bit of a pain.

However as you're traveling from Lancashire I would say avoid Edinburgh, unless it's a place you want to be, and look at Stirling, Bridge of Allan or Perth.

ok well you'd be better placed to start it by staying in stirling or push on to stay in perth - the start of it
its all dual carriageway or Mway easy riding

I have stayed in Hotel Colessio in Sterling a few times and highly recommend it, no secure bike parking though (that I know of).

Our group stayed for one night in Inverness last year, it was the biggest disappointment of the whole trip, I would not recommend.

Inverness is a lovely place, would recommend the Kingsmills Hotel and the superb Prime Steak and Seafood at Ness Walk. Lots of good pubs as well

Also, doesn't seem like there's that much point in going to Edinburgh with your intended route. Instead, I'd try the Broomhall Castle Hotel in Menstrie - bit out of town so should be safe enough, and a short taxi ride from Stirling if you want to go back out

I live just outside of Inverness.

Most hotels around the town are good for leaving motorbikes at. Bike theft isn't really a thing up here to be honest.

It's sheep, heating oil and motorcross bikes people like......

I do like a wee stop over in Inverness... Chieftain Hotel is OK... decent enough rooms, large - safe - carpark and is just a short walk away from the centre.

Quick walk down to Johnny Foxes and pull a mad bird....

I find it's pretty central for ride options the next day too...

As you're heading for the A93 you might consider having your overnight stay in or around Perth to get an early start before traffic builds up. Only place I can suggest is this https://www.ballathiehousehotel.com/ which is just off the A93 between Perth & Blairgowrie.

When I did the NC500 I stayed at the old north inn which was lovely, had a car park out of the site of the road, just locked my bike up there.
