Anyone an expert in the carnet rules ?

Fancy a trip to spain in the van with the mountain bike , pitbike supermoto (unregistered) and enduro bike (registered)

All the kit is my own for my own holiday ...so if I want to take the road registered enduro bike then i am stuck doing a carnet I guess

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-a-cpd-carnet...

Plan B ,....

If i leave the enduro bike ... and just take the mountain bike and the unregistered pitbike supermoto for the kart tracks ... then no carnet ...right ?

Yours confused

Rules maybe changed but I;ve never done a carnet declaration for taking any of my bikes abroad in the van

But they are all registered, insured and i take those docs.

Haven't done it personally but from other people's experiences they just open the back doors and say nice motorbikes, have fun.

They'll be able to tell you're clearly taking your personal bikes and you're not a haulage company or a race team.

Are you sure you need the carnet for a holiday in the EU? I thought you just needed the green card thing from your insurance company.

I think now we are getting all the customs rules post brexit, turning up with a van and bikes will need paperwork

CPD carnet looks like it’s for other continents, I think EU use entails the ATA carnet? If your van and enduro bike are both registered to you at same address I think they understand the danger / likelihood of you selling the bike whilst abroad and dodging customs tax is slim as a fair proportion of the value is in it being registered.

I think the main current problem centres around unregistered race bikes so your problem might be the pitbike.

Even more ironically, no-one’s going to care about the mountain bike but that could be worth more than motorised bikes.

If the bike is registered and in your name and you have the V5 and insurance documents with you then you've met all the requirements, so should be able to take it without issue, riding it or in the back of a van that you are also in. You'd need to dig deep to find out about taking an unregistered bike, might be classed as goods for business so in a different category.

guess professional teams need to do this as they are a business

'Business and self-employed/Exporting and doing business abroad'

looking like for joe bloggs like me it might be fine after all as its all personal.

have email the carnet police with my hypothetical scenario anyway

Spoke to these folks

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-a-cpd-carnet

Telephone: +44 (0) 1284 333 812
She confirmed that as a tourist you can enter europe but need the V5C and insurance documents.

For an unregistered track bike you WILL need an ATA carnet

Thankfully the pitbike is on a q plate so I *should* be ok

That's useful to know, thank you for sharing.

I'm planning on taking my grom in the back of our Sprinter, we are intending to travel around France/Spain/Portugal for a few months. I was dreading the unknown paperwork sh!tstorm that taking the bike could cause!

Interesting (i.e a bit painful) that you need insurance on them. Plenty of people have track bikes with a V5 to prove ownership but no road insurance. Fortunately I’ve got a road bike as well and Tip Ex.
