I've been offered a 2005 Fazer 1000 for a very good price.

It's been laid up inside a heated building for 14 months.

Besides the usual, is there anything model specific I need to look for?

And any one got an opinion on these bikes, good or bad?

They are great bikes, I've had 3 now, fast, comfy, good handling, main issues are stuck exup valves, worn carbs and tired suspension, its all the bike you'll ever need and I'll probably buy another when I get off the pcp roundabout.

They respond very well to having an Ivan's kit fitted to the carbs and a decent rear shock helps when pushing on a bit.

The foc-u.co.uk boys have plenty of info on them. Been donks since I rode one, liked it but loved the the FZ1-S more, although I wish it had the FZS's fuel range....

Mate across the road has got one that he uses for commuting on.

Just the other day it lost all drive. The front sprocket nut had come loose and the sprocket had come off the spline. Fortunately it doesn’t seem to have damaged anything. I don’t know if that’s common but worth a check.

Carbs are gummed up so need cleaning out, a good service and if I keep it, i'd do new front and rear suspension. It's one of those things that I've been meaning to sort out for two years now. Something else always takes priority!!

Just agreed to buy it.

On an 05 plate, will have a fresh MOT, £1600

Bottom end is fluffy due to aftermarket pipe, but quite a few people recommend the carb tuning kit, so will have that fitted, and then have it properly set up and balanced.

Has heated grips, hand guards, tank bag, and luggage rack.

I own this bike already 3 years. I liked it cos it's appearance and serious power characteristics. In addition, I wanted a relatively frisky motorcycle, with a straight comfortable fit and a minimum of plastic.
The seat is very comfortable, with a height of 179, it is quite comfortable for me both in the city and on long distances. Wind protection is rather weak in my opinion, I installed a high glass, I'm thinking about installing an additional deflector on the glass. It is comfortable to ride up to 150, after it is better to duck.
Reliability: the motorcycle is reliable, there were no problems with hardware at all. Immediately after the purchase, I discovered that the float chambers on the carburetors were leaking and there were also problems with the monofolds (and they are expensive). Oils, filters, brake fluid pads, well, and other little things. And that's it.
Be careful with the gas and be careful with the brakes, and drive by the rules (at least in the beginning). If your driving experience is not great, then this bike may not forgive some mistakes (better look for 400 cc).

Strange that you say this, everything else I have read says it's a pussy cat, unless provoked.

Having grown up riding KR1Ss, 350LCs, FZ750s, ZXR750s, and most recently Bandits, I'm sure I'll be fine.
