I have a 3 year old Honda CB125R to learn the skills before looking to take the DAS in April.

As it’s not getting used much over winter it’s time for some maintenance. Already taken out the battery draining tracker and fitted a trickle charger. Also changed the oil filter in the clutch side case.

The (A) throttle cable barrel adjuster at the bar is adjusted to max and still has a little too much play which I’m surprised at given its at 2k miles. To get it perfect it’s completely run out of thread. I know on some bikes you can adjust at the throttle body side. But looking at this one I’m not sure.

I think if I screw the top larger collar out the cable will become loose. I think what it needs is an additional nut as per the Google image below.

Now If that’s the case I could try getting another nut on there, but I don’t think it would fit over the cable nipple. A new cable is only £12 but it have to take the bloody plastics off and lift the tank again!

Any advice is appreciated.

Seems weird that they’re so loose?!?

You could cut a section out of some washers so you only need to slacken the nut and then install the washers and tighten back up.

I thought about trying a spacer of some sort.

From looking at your picture, the only way I can see that working as an adjustment is that the top threaded section is separate from the male threaded stud part with the hole through the centre. I'm sure if you were to loosen the bottom lock nut, then adjust with the top larger nut you will be able to tighten the cable it up. I have tried to do a rough edit to explain what I mean hehe

I like your skills!

Unfortunately it is not as your picture suggests. The top larger nut spins but is not threaded so does not give adjustment.

I was so close. I managed to get a split washer on the top. It worked really well, however I can’t tighten the bottom nut up properly as I nicked a thread and it won’t budge! I’ll give it another go tomorrow but il likely be buying a new cable which is cheap, but means I have to pull all the plastics off again frown

Fixed! Split washers above and below. I managed to straighten them both flat. Cable is nice and tight at the TB side. I’m now half way on the lever adjuster which is perfecto.
