hi all - i've been out of riding for a good few years now, and my bike now needs rather a lot of TLC to get it back into good nick. it's been stood for about 6-7 years - a few outside and 3 now in my garage. before this it worked fine - but the alarm is now dead, it'll be removed. obvious things that need replacing include battery, chain, sprockets, tyres etc. but i'm sure lots of other things won't have done well with all this time being stood - the petrol still in the tank etc. it is/was a lovely bike though and i'd like to get it going again and ride it. it's a MY 2000 with about 15k miles on it, in bright yellow biggrin.

so it will be a project over the coming months as i get the time, but a busy job and a new baby doesn't help smile - what i was wondering is about places to get bits and pieces i'll need - thank you

One place I've found really useful is AP Workshops in Tamworth, really knowledgeable and helpful. If for any reason you need graphics, Image Works in Ilkeston are brilliant, they're big into Aprilias and can reproduce pretty much anything needed. No affiliation with either, just good companies I'd recommend smile

There are a couple of good FB groups for the Mille where people regularly sell parts and have a lot of knowledge to share...IT Aprilia Tech GB is one of them...

I've got a 2003 Tuono. Some parts are a real pain to find, as said above the AP Workshops Facebook group is great for advice.

Get the suspension refurbished as well - don't forget the linkages.

That fuel will certainly have gone off & turned to varnish & goo, given the storage and age, I’d probably change the fuel lines and brake lines as well. AP Workshops is a good shout ^ as Griff and his team are very approachable with questions & advice. Maybe join an Aprilia chat forum for additional advice.
Great bike and project for winter though.. I have a Factory Gen 2 & love that booming v twin.
Any pics, post em up yes

Another vote for Griff @ AP Workshops. Just did a 600 mile round trip to drop mine in for various items including a new sprag clutch. Great service, very knowledgeable & just all round nice people! Able to source most parts for you.

PS Yellow ones go faster, well known fact! Gratuitous shot attached!

I have a black/silver 99, had it from new. A few years back mine had been stood a few years too, so I sent it to griff to ‘recommission’ it. Did a great job, he’s certainly the man to contact.

In fact I need to get in touch with him again as the pipes inside the petrol tank have deteriorated and split. This is common I believe as they age and griff has a replacement kit I think. Failure is not good as I had super unleaded spewing over a hot engine! I’d have them done if I were you!

They are great bikes RSV’s.

Thanks guys thumbup and some beautiful examples above smokin

I’m thinking it may be better to have it refreshed at a good workshop - they’d do a better job than me - knowledge, experience, all the correct tools etc. Spare time is really not on my side at the moment - this way I’ll spend some money on it, but have it done right (which is what a bike this deserves smile ) and then actually be able to ride it when summer does arrive.

So I’ll give AP a call and chat with them.

Thanks again

I'm doing the same at the moment with and RSV. The only place is AP Workshops in Tamworth. What Griff doesn't know about Aprilia's is most likely not worth knowing.

But start with the rear shock link bearings, if the seize then it will be bad times all round.

How many thousands did that cost you in fuel?

In the back of a VW Transporter so about £150! (including a stop for a Ginsters & coffee!)

It's Griff Wooley not Roberts that owns AP Workshops/performance

Great bikes.

I remember mine fondly, I can't believe it was 20 years ago I bought one.

My overriding memory was the noise from the Harris titanium 2 into 2, with a factory airbox and chip it was insane. My neighbours at the time were less impressed.
