I used to have a new 900 Scrambler around 2007, lovely bike, especially with the louder pipes.

If it's been used off road, check the frame carefully around the headstock.

Love mine! It’s a little on the tall side (XE), I’m 5ft11 but I’ve got TEC lowering springs and dropped the forks through to match and it’s manageable now. The bike oozes quality and it’s nice to have a bike that looks like a bike with metals parts instead of plastic covers etc (I had a street triple RS before). People want to talk to you about it all the time, as they aren’t all that common and look retro.

I never intend on taking mine off road, if I wanted to do that I would have got something more appropriate, the weight is too much IMO and parts to expensive to damage. It has more than enough power and has a lot of road presence also. A pic of mine below;

your height is irrelevant, pretty much. Your inside leg measurement is the important stat.

Well inside leg is 32 to 33 inches, depending if measured by jean length or the book method.

The height of the Xe makes me a trifle anxious tbh, but I prefer the colours and more importantly cornering abs.

I am surprised the other poster had lowering springs at 5 11

Have you sat on one at all, 870mm seat height is pretty high. The bike rides just as well as before, it only really takes out the static sag when you are on it . You could always get an XC and get the tank sprayed or get hold of an XE coloured tank.

What bike are you coming from? It can be a little daunting going from a bike that you can pretty much flat foot on to one that you can only flat foot one leg. But it’s something you get quickly used to.

I've never understood why they don't make a "Street Scrambler" version. It wouldn't need many changes. Keep the dual discs and the tubeless wheels, but go to a 19 inch front and road suspension.

There could be a lot of people who would like the 1200, the better brakes and suspension, and the tubeless tyres, but don't want the "off road" features (that nobody ever uses anyway) and/or cannot cope with the seat height.

Lovely bikes - deliciously torquey engine with a soft power delivery, a quality feel and a proper feelgood vibe. I had one for a few weeks to test and took it down a pretty sketchy and steep green lane. It wasn't on the right tyres and I definitely didn't have the skills, but I didn't drop it and it was quite good fun! Heavy though, and I wouldn't have wanted to be any shorter (I'm 6'3") for getting feet down on uneven slippery surfaces. It makes a lovely pottering around bike, but if you want something that eggs you on in corners then also check out the new Speed Twin.

Hi Jakeharvey

I have not sat on one. The Xc was very easy to ride. The YouTube videos seem to suggest I will be OK and I thought I could either do the low seat or the lowering springs.

I think my key reasonfor the Xe is to get the cornering abs and after my KTM 790 Duke, with all the toys, I would rather have them again.

Also the Xe has fancy brakes etc and spending this much on a bike make some want all the toy. Also, in the past with cars I have always bought the one slightly lighted speced version and always regretted it.

Hmmm, can't edit. OK so I sat on one and am comfortably on the balls of my feet. It's heavy though especially trying to get it off the centre stand!

The blue is nice and thee engine lovely, feels a lot more majestic than the XC. The Xc feels more like a normal bike and hides the weight better, maybe due to a less acute angle when in the side stand?

I did try a speed twin but found it very cramped.

I like the Xe but it's a 3 owner bike althiugh has a Triumph service history. Not sure if was pre Reg at all.

They both have the same brakes, the XE has the updated brembo master cylinder though with its adjustments. To be fair, I never contemplated an XC, they looked too much like a street scrambler, I liked the XE as it looked more purposeful, looking back now, maybe I should have given the XC more of a look.

The weight and height becomes normal after a while, there are a lot heavier bikes out there, I’ve managed to shave a little weight up height, 4kg off exhaust, 2kg off of battery, doesn’t sound a lot but the weight is all up high.

Worth joining some of the Facebook groups and seeing what’s about on there, I did exactly that and was offered a 21 plate bike with 800 miles for £10.5k which I evidently bought. Worth shopping around though but prices seem to be very similar at the mo. I’m surprised you can get the balls of your feet on the ground with that inside leg measurement on a XE though.
