Alfaracer is on the money I believe.
As to the year, not sure. The reg would pin it down if you have the patience to search the county archives wherever it was registered.
Pre-1935 I reckon though as it has the earlier type gearbox.

Thankyou to everyonce.. just by chance it was the anniversary of his death yesterday.

I love bikes and have always wondered what he rode.. now I know ! I am currently restoring a WW2 matchless G3L which has an interesting history which He would approve of

Without a doubt Im going to get one.. Thankyou again.... Anyone got one for sale !

Andy Tiernan has a 350 version for sale:

It's hard to tell if the one in your pic is a 250 or a 350.

My dad has a J12 from a similar year but is basically a v-twin made from two of the 250 singles on different crankcases. That is fairly 'sedate' so I reckon the 250 single will be pretty slow. The 350 may be a better option for dealing with modern traffic!

Interesting. Thanks for some useful info. Agreed a 350 is a better idea and idealy id like an unresored bike, oily rag, bike. Ive seen the one for sale... bit neat for me. Haha

Cheers

Photo of my dad’s J12, which is the v-twin using two of those top ends really.

As you’re a military bike fan you may be interested that these were made by BSA for military trials in the 30s. In the end the MoD went with the (slightly simpler!) sidevalve single M20!

Sounds amazing!
