If anyone has a BMW with the 1250 LC lump, I'd appreciate it if you could take a fairly accurate measurement of the width across the pots please? (Maybe a couple of pieces of wood vertical down to the ground?). Just the pots themselves, no engine bars or covers.

There are measurements online but they range from 895 mm to 953mm and I don't know whether that's bars or pots.

TIA.

My r1200rt ( Yes 1200 not 1250 ) measures circa 800mm across the cylinders IE left to right but across the fixed mirrors its 980mm . How tight a gateway are we going into ? LOL

I used to put my bike in the little front area In front of a typical small SW Victorian terrace.

Not helped by no straight run up as there was a massive brick flower bed on the pavement right outside my gate and a 6 ins step.

Involved an intricate ballet with my Street Triple and almost impossible with my Vespa 300 for some reason. If I didn't get the side on approach exactly right it involved a lot of manhandling. Little wheels didn't help.

I took a R1200GS LC out on a test ride from a place 30 miles away in the countryside and thought I'd better check that I could get it in and out of its space if bought.

Surprisingly I managed it first go.

So good luck Cappo. Don't you have a GS already? or have you moved?

Yeah I've got a 1200RT, but those are the oil cooled lumps and I'm sure the liquid cooled must be wider?

I've got a little over 900mm to play with without having to make major changes!

Cheers Croyde. Not a GS but an RT, an older (2012) one which I used to commute on but which I'm going to sell now. Haven't moved but my storage arrangements have changed a bit!

I fancy a GS. Test rode a KTM 1290 Super Adventure S today, I didn't like it one bit at all! But that's another story!

Anyway since I posted I spoke to a dealer who's going to lend me one tomorrow to bring home and see what happens - watch this space smile

Can't measure as I've just sold mine.... but the bars are wider than the engine... this picture doesn't help cos the bars were locked over frown.... right hand cylinder sits slightly further back than the left...

I bought a GS 1200 and had to fit Helibars on it to get it through the gate.

Even then it needed a bit of a wiggle to get past the posts.

The bars are way wider than the cylinders even with crash bars fitted.

Thanks - I was thinking the bars were the widest part, and that's much less of an issue as I have room to wiggle them through. That shows it quite well.

Thanks also drawweight.

My rt is a late 2016 water cooled bike circa 800mm , I would not have though a 1250 with the shift cam heads would be much wider if any . Good luck with your test ride / fitting .

Ah ok, I didn't actually realise there was a 1200 LC! I thought they had gone 1200 oil head to 1250 LC.

As the returning officer for the constituency of North Boxerengines, I can confirm that the results are in:

Gap too small - 0 votes
Gap plenty big enough - 1 vote

I therefore declare that Gap plenty big enough wins biggrin

For completely unrelated reasons I had to drop the bike back and dash off straight away to help a mate with something else but I will be going back in on Monday to see what sort of "end of month, end of year" deal he can do me. He has a new bike in the showroom which I think it close to my desired spec, need to check that out and see whether it's Happy Xmas Cappo or not.
