How Can You Tell If A Bike Has An OEM Immobiliser ?
Discussion
People get a bit paranoid with the cost of red keys etc
Just sold an ER6N with one key which is how it came in, Google suggests that they didn't have immobilisers but it wasn't clear
I have an same with most 2000-2010 ish bikes half the forums suggest it does have an immobiliser, half suggest it doesn't
I would have assumed there was an insurance industry list somewhere or similar

If you're selling a bike without an obvious immobiliser key/serial then maybe the solution is have another cheap blade key cut.
When you try it you'll know if it's got an immob, and if it does then at least the owner has a way of unlocking it etc to get a new lock set fitted without breaking it.

Really I need to know before I buy them, if I've bought it without a red key (for example) it's a bit lateWhen you try it you'll know if it's got an immob, and if it does then at least the owner has a way of unlocking it etc to get a new lock set fitted without breaking it.

Any decent auto locksmith will have a chip reader.
They can pop your key in it and tell you straight away if it has one and usually clone you as many keys as you need.
This. Even timpsons will know if you pop down and say you want a new key cutting for whatever bike and ask for a price. Guy at my local one looked up the details on his computer to give me a price.
