So I have bought a 2022 enduro bike from a well known dealer. They have provide me with a list of number plates to choose from, i chose one, they made it and gave it to me with the bike. The fees included first reg and 12 months tax

I have then brought the bike home and insured it, no issues.

I still dont have the V5 and the DVLA MOT Check site still doesnt recognise the reg (i am assuming it is still sat in an envelope on a desk somewhere at the DVLA)

Can I ride my motorbike or do i need to wait for V5 reg which would confirm i have tax?

Ask for a confirmation of registration, assuming they've registered the bike, they should have one on file.
Thereafter, your bike is registered, you can ride it. V5 wait is typically a fortnight, normally much quicker.

Yes, they should have given you an AFRL print to show it's registered. You don't have to wait for the V5.

apparently as it is non-homologated model it is a manual process (Yamaha WR).. they havent processed the paperwork yet. Dealer seems to think i cannot ride it and can take up to 6 weeks from the DVLA.

Guess if i was to get caught riding it, the offence would be riding without tax!

Does the online tax checker show it yet?

Also, pics required!

Yes I’ve got one of these , it has to be registered like a import ,so the dealer did the paperwork in my name and sent it to the DVLA with the fee it did take about 3 weeks , you will get a V5 and the reg number even though I bought the bike in Dorset it came with a local number for Manchester , I don’t think the dealer can allocate a reg number it has to come from the DVLA !!

The dealer i got it from is absolutely massive. I think they get a load assigned to them!

It is so annoying looking at it sitting there waiting for me to ride it!

Personally I'd ride it and just carry the proof that it's all been applied for and is insured

The tax is backdated to the 1st

Most Police I've come across are reasonable plus when did you last see a Police car ?

The WR is sold as a off road only bike hence it’s not homologated Just so to be road legal it needs a horn and either no lights whatsoever or brake lights and high low beam and side lights , rear reflector, the dealer should have told you this , you can register and tax it and it doesn’t need an mot , but you need to make it road worthy !!

Just to add most of the stuff is there ,
The headlight needs a 3 wire connector a hole is blank for the sidelight , the rear light has a spare wire which is for the brake lights best to use the hydraulic brake light switches 1.25 threads for the master cylinders I used a KTM light switch with the high low beam switch kill and horn buttons, took power from the rear light for the side light , horn and brake light, the headlight powers up so just cut into the feed and run wires to the switch..
hopefully that gives you a start , or whoever you use .

I sell weirdy vehicles that need a paper application and DVLA have been a nightmare over Covid times. Forever on go-slow / strike / isolating / useless - 6 weeks would be a speedy turnaround.

I tend to know what AFRL plate’s going to get allocated but don’t tend to tell customer until it’s gone registered online. If the customer absolutely insists on taking it beforehand I get them to sign a disclaimer (not sure how much it protects us).

Worse case if you mowed down a bus queue of orphans & nuns is uninsured presumably but I’m driving them all the time and generally forget my trade plates - keep 10% above the speed limit at all times, don’t want to look too guilty! hehe

It needs a horn for MOT mate that’s all. I tape up my lights and brake lights. I don’t ride it in the dark or around any road with traffic. it’s also transported to byways and hare and hounds/tracks. As I say I’ve had a few of these so no stranger to them.

It's mostly the ANPR cameras that catch untaxed (or SORN) vehicles on the road, not the police. Keep to green laning and side roads? scratchchin

I do wonder how many there really are, I know several friends who have accidentally run cars for up to 6 months without tax or MOT and they haven't had a ticket.

By the time it went to court it would have been back taxed, it is insured and it doesn't need an MOT -I'd take the risk
