New project thread…..

Here we have a 1986 GPZ900R A-3. Stored for last 12 years, only 14k miles (apparently)…

Looks ok from a distance, but up close it’s rough…

.

…. and has the worlds most complicated brakes

The brakes aren't especially complicated, they just incorporated a fashionable (but rubbish) anti-dive system.

Bypass it with a single line from the master cylinder to the caliper, uprate the fork springs and use heavier oil.

One of those bikes that looks good from far but is far from good - iconic machine though!

Good luck getting it how you want it. thumbup

Oh don’t worry, none of that stuff is staying……..plan is up-to-date suspension, brakes, wheels and tyres.

Nice project.
I've had a couple - the GPZ900R was certainly a 'game changer' when it hit the market 37 years ago....

Are we laying bets on when No3 big end sts its self? biggrin

An oil pressure relief spring from a ZZR1100 is stronger, stops the oil pressure from dropping and blowing No3 big end out.

Has it had the oil feed to the inlet cam uprated? Iirc there were yellow stickers on the uprated pipes to show the new parts were fitted.

I do love a 900R, I've had 3 and still have a later A7

If the original exhausts are ok you'll get a few quid toward your upgrades

Bookmarked. Looking forward to the end result.

Used to dispatch ride on mine back in 1987. Chopped it in for some new fangled machine in 1988 called a Honda CBR600.

I guess you're not needing too many standard parts but The Gpz Zone stocks a few hard to find odds and sods

Only bike that I saw 155 on the Speedo.

A long long time ago.

Decent helmet, gloves and racing boots, jeans and a nylon bomber jacket yikes

Nice to see this. I've got an A3 mild project too. Mot'd and on the road, but I can't get it running consistently (guessing amplifiers /coils as it sometimes will start perfectly and then gradually lose a cylinder at a time, though the lost cylinder oesn't always seem related to the coil it's on, so I could be barking up the wrong tree). I need a kick up the arse to get on it

I had something simular on my A7, ok in the higher revs(above 5k). It was rust in the tank working it's way through the carbs. Resealed the tank, cleaned out the carbs and all ok now. Does need prime to start if I don't run it for 3 or 4 weeks but I think that's normal

That Skull wallpaper rocks!

That's a smashing bike. Would love to be able to take on a project bike, but have no space.

That wallpaper was in my office for 1 month…. It didn’t last long… doesn’t look quite so cool on a zoom work call 😂

They were lovely soft Italian racing boots. White with a blue stripe. Nothing like the armoured mega boots you see today hehe

Silver gaffer tape on them as well as they were so worn out.
