I’ve got three bikes that will need servicing this winter and I’ll be doing it myself.
They all take 10w40, so I’m looking for at least 15 litres of the stuff, and I intend to continue the home servicing for the foreseeable (until the triumph hits 40k miles anyway, those shims are a faff).

Are there any savings to be made buying in bulk, any recommendations where to get the oil from?

https://www.westwayoils.co.uk/

I've been getting my bulk oil, and mostly all my other fluids for bikes/cars/garden equipment from here for a few years now.

The risk of condensation in a big container would worry me long term.

I’ve always done well simply shopping around. I tend to find 4l of a branded 10w40 fully synthetic for around £20 which isn’t too bad.

Recently Shell Ultra 4T has had decent offers if you spend 15 minutes googling.

I bulk buy from Westway too - 20L drums and I ordered quite a few as prices are only going one way

Just had a look at west way, right oil, good prices, don’t deliver to Scotland…

Anyone else!

I’m in Glasgow and they deliver to me and use DPD.

Try via their eBay shop..

Unless you’re in the highlands or islands maybe?

Agree on the Shell stuff. Full synth for the price of other major brands semi-synth. Seems like a bit of a bargain to me.

Near Aberdeen, same message about postage being too expensive on eBay.

Ah well

I sell a lot on eBay and I've found the same, if it's above 3.5kg then Royal Mail are too expensive and you have to use a courier and couriers will only deliver to "standard" UK locations for £8ish

Once you're outside these areas it jumps to £30+

I would think Aberdeen would be classed as a standard location though.. 3rd biggest city in Scotland and transport links are pretty good..

Sign of the times I guess... Hope they don't cancel my next order....about to get my fluids for winter service/rebuilds!

Don't see that as an issue, to be honest. I've bought car oil in 25l containers a few times, and it's been fine. I take the cap off in my warm, dry garage,, decant 4 or 5 litres and reseal it. Repeat 5 or 6 times over 2yrs before it's all used up. There's very little scope for moist air to get in there and condense out, and I was paying close attention*.

(* I have a bimmer with the dodgy N47 cam chain. I've always believed that this results from oil dilution during stupidly long 20k service intervals, so I change the oil every 6-7,000 miles. Might be wasting my time & money, but the car has done 130,000 miles now without any symptoms)

Russian oil producer who have previously overstated their oils compatibility, worth a quick Google before you buy
