Another new bike project
Discussion
So you may of read my previous thread about my GSX 400 Import I got in July, just to get my confidence back into riding.
I've just done the fork seals and need to put it back together, done a good bit of riding with it locally and it's been good but it's just a tad small for going further the way it's geared.
At the weekend I had a shot of my pals GSXS1000, I have to say it's the fastest bike I've ever been on and was terrifyingly quick, in the midst of all of this I had to head down to HQ Birmingham for work and on route popped into Superbike Factory and bloody hell they don't half have alot of bikes, I had my eye on a GSR 750 they had but it was dog ruff and I found this to be a common theme with alot of the bikes but then again they're just a huge bike dealer.
Anyway fast forward to Sunday, I found this online - THE VENOM GSR 750
Why would I look at this you may ask........
Lowish mileage, full history, scorpion exhaust, nice wee mirrors, belly pan, radiator guard, upgraded levers.........but it looks ruff and sh!t but as always I like to explore these options, it wasn't too far from me 2hrs 26mins to be exact and it was a polish gent selling it.
£2999 was the price, the cheapest one online - It's a 2012 with 19k and FSH so I figured it must be a lemon or have something very wrong.
Anyways I met the polish gent, nice lad, he pulled the bike out and it was surprisingly very clean and looked so much better in the flesh, the Michelin Pilot sports were dead and I mean to the point of nearly showing cord, which is odd as he just spent £196 to get the venom graphics. I reluctantly took it a wee ride as it was pouring with rain and I was in dress trousers, I then ripped my trousers from arse to ball sack.........GREAT
Anyway the bike rode very well for the short period I did ride it, there was no drips of oil or coolant, it warmed up correctly, chain and sprocket were new aswell.
So with it needing tyres I offered a cheeky £2500 to which he said £2540............I didn't expect that but did the deal.
Came with 2 keys, original book pack etc, all the frame numbers add up etc.
Got her home and got the stickers off straight away
Need to get some new tyres for her and not sure what to get.
I don't do many miles but I live in the Highlands where it's rather damp alot so something sticky but good in the dampness, they don't need to last long as I don't do a great deal of mileage, they currently have Michelin Pilot Road Sports on it.
Excited to put some of my touches on it and get out on it next season.

Seems a bit of a bargain.
I rode a test bike in similar conditions in my youth but I didn't rip my trousers.
It'll be interesting to see which tyres are recommended. I heard or read a recommendation for a tyre that was good in the wet recently but I cannot remember which it was.

I've never noticed the odd shaped front mudguard before despite having seen one in a showroom.
Never noticed them until I looked at one in Superbike Factory and I was like "'Not sure about that" hahaIt has Michelin Pilot Sport 4s on it just now, my friend runs these on his GSXS1000 and sings their praises.
My crap photo doesn't help the photo with the stickers off as I am currently doing up my garage and have the other bike on the ramp.
Going to give her a good polish and maybe take it a run when i get new tyres before the year is out as it's oddly mild up in the Highlands.
Cheers lads
Tonight I took the exhaust system off, decided I’m going to polish it all up, not too hard.
Ordered Michelin Pilot Powers which are getting fitted next week - £200 fitted for the front and rear at my mates garage.
Couple of things I want to change
I don’t like the chrome handlebars so going to get renthals
Pillion seat cover

Added £500 just taking those naff stickers off!
^^^ Definitely this. It’s amazing what a bit of de-chavving does and best of all it’s free.
Nice looking bike anyway.

It was a full red flag situation to be fair
Dodgy photos
No history
1 key
Bald tyres
Amazing stickers
Very very ruff area
But the lad couldn’t of been any nicer, found the history, book pack and 2nd key by the time I arrived.
To be honest if I’d went to see it with no stickers and cleaned I’d of happily paid more for it.
Polishing the exhaust here is the before
And halfway
Enjoying having another project, with having an 18 month old and a 10 week old it’s a welcome having something to do in the garage again haha

Is the garage key? I too have an 18 month old and a project bike but struggle getting 10 minutes to lug the tools out to work outside on it! Sorry off topic- good luck with the project and envious of folk getting to ride in the Highlands
Garage is key to alone time my man.I use morning nap times or afternoon nap times or any other time everyone is asleep. Sometimes later nights 😂

I prefer the looks of your gsx 400!
I also rode a 400 for a few years. 1000rpm per 10mph in 6th gear if I remember correctly. I was so convinced that the engine would blow up I bought a spare engine, never used it though.
I actually didn’t want a black GSR but this was too cheap to turn down. I managed to find all the rear bodywork, front guard off a white one for £124 and the tank is £180 but black is growing on me.I also rode a 400 for a few years. 1000rpm per 10mph in 6th gear if I remember correctly. Totally the GSX is such a hoot to ride, I’ll be keeping it for sure, it was ridden by the previous owner from Scotland to the Isle of Mann TT as his Panigale broke down the day they were leaving so he loaded the panniers onto the gsx and took it 😂
