Can an ordinary 30 year old battery charger the one I use to cahrge my car battery be used to charge a modern Yamaha MT10sp Battery?

I have been told a trickle charge battary charger has to be used or a will damage the battery?

Anyone know?

What charger is cheap and works?

Thanks.

I use an Oxford Oximiser 900 on all my bikes. They are available online for less than £30 and have worked well for a number of years

It will do a job but I wouldn’t leave it on for very long. A car battery charger will have a much higher capacity than you need for a bike.

Over winter when my bike sits in the garage I put an optimate on it once a month and it tends to not need any charge or 30 minutes tops. Unless you have an active drain a good battery won’t discharge much in the cold.

Don't let the battery discharge itself too much... otherwise it will throw an engine light even when charged again, and you need to go to Yamaha to remove it (ask me how I know...)

Ride it more?? smile

Just kidding, I’m flip-flopping undecidedly between ‘winterising’ mine or hibernating it.

Best thing I even done on my MT10 was fit a shido li-on battery.

The bike started way better and it would go all winter without running or charging.
