Motorcycle transport
Discussion
I know this has been asked before - hell, I even remember replying to a similar topic suggesting Chas Mortimer as I'd used them before...but the search function on PH is so cr@p (and has been for years) I can't find the topics.
I need to get small/light/old bike transported from Herts to Scotland. I'm in no rush; size-wise it's no bigger than a step-thru, lots lower and it's probably light enough to be picked up single-handedly. I could also probably get it put on a pallet. The rates I'm being quoted seem the same as if I was paying for full-sized heavyweight bikes to be transported. Given the value of this one I need much cheapness! It would easily fit in the back of the car, but at sub 20mpg even on motorways that's not a cheap option either. Any suggestions?

Possibly have a look for some quotes on Shiply, however don't be surprised if you get normal motorbike rates. Equally, if you're precious about it not being shoved in the back of a luton van with a load of other crap then you might *want* it to be treated as a normal motorbike in terms of transport.
I used uship on a cheap motorbike (https://www.uship.com/uk). Cost £50 to have it picked up in Birmingham and delivered to York using a discount voucher (I think they may have a black Friday discount code at the moment). It was a random block with a van (swb transit van with anchor points and straps). They use a tracker so you know when they come and when it is delivered. The bike was intact on the other side. I will use them again for cheap stuff but would not trust them with a £5k+ bike.
I've used the bike barn (Simon) a few times now, great prices and a nice guy too. Ask him for a quote

It's the best part of 70 years old and in sub-barn-find condition, so any extra dents or bashes won't make any difference...might knock some of the rust off! It's a total restoration project for me, so I'm not precious at all about how it gets transported.srob said:
What is it? Just being nosy!
A Brockhouse Corgi...which if it was sold in the US would have been badged as an Indian Papoose. Plan is therefore to restore/build it as a Papoose to add to the tribe - only the tank colour and badge make it different from a Corgi so I don't think it's too sacrilegious as everything else is the same. Badge engineering at its finest. The VMCC do a few tiddlers runs and I thought a real tiddler with an Indian badge might be fun. Plus it will keep me occupied over the winter...and maybe longer as it's not one of these bikes with a good supply of parts available,

I know in our VMCC section there's often people on little cc bikes on the runs for the vintage and veteran bikes as the routes tend to suit them better!
