Morning all, I'm new to motorcycling having passed my test in AUgust this year and have a Shoei NXR which is super comfy and great on my V-Strom but when I ride my 600 Monster at motorway speeds I get quite a lot of helmet lift which is quite uncomfortable, any thoughts/fixes?

Sounds like it's too big.

Do it up more tightly. I used to get this when I started riding motorbikes, cured by making sure I did it up tightly enough.

Providing the helmet does fit correctly, of course: i.e. you can shake your head vigorously without it changing position on your head.

Sounds like it could be too big, you want it to fit really snug, without causing discomfort or any pressure points.

If your helmet is too small, you can put a thin beanie between the foam and the helmet lining.

My first helmet was too loose

I glued some 3mm closed cell foam to the polystyrene (choose the right glue) it didn't take much to sort it out

You'll get some "experts" saying it's dangerous and then they'll tell you that you can also buy inserts off the manufacturer that do the same thing for 1000x the price

I also found the angle of my helmet and my head made a big difference

Beanie = the felt/wool/polyester thing you put on your head to keep it warm.

Think it was your suggestion that wearing a Beanie would help a too-small helmet to fit that confused him.

I assume you meant it would help with a helmet that is too big

Sounds too small as others have suggested, plus you may not have a Shoei shaped head - you may or may not know that each manufacturers shape is slightly different.

Certain brands and models have removable padding, you can buy replacement/thicker padding to enable a custom fit.

Increase the size of your head by sleeping upside down like a bat.

Thanks for all your answer peeps, I think the foam liner must have gone a bit baggy, the helmet is only 2 years old and I've seen you can replace them?

That and do it up tighter obvs wink

And again. It's too big.

I have an NXR which fitted me perfectly last year. I then lost over 2 stone, which resulted in me having less of a moon head and I found it lifting at similar speeds to what you mention.

I tried thicker 45mm pads (they come with 35mm as standard) but even then it wasn't as good a fit as it was previously.

I've now dropped down from a size large with 45mm pads to a size medium with the standard 35mm and it fits me perfectly.

Deffo too big.

Don’t worry, I had the same issue. Was fine all through my lessons, but would Buffet and lift as soon as I got out in the real world (also on a monster). Dropped down a size and no issues since.
