Thinking of buying one, but not 100% sure of the ergonomics, so looking for owner opinions.

I've had about a 40 min ride on one. Stock, the bike doesn't work for me - I don't like forward lean or bent knees. Therefore if I bought it I would be fitting it with bar risers and footpeg lowers. You can get +25mm up with 35mm back bar risers. Bar risers and lower pegs fixed the ergos on my current bike, so it might work on the RS too.

Are there any RS owners on here that can comment on the ergos? Looking for an all-day comfortable bike, so I'm not sure a test ride will give me the answer.

Also on the 1250 model with the digital speedo, can you switch it between mph and km/h?

I wanted an R1250RS but after a test ride felt the ergonomics were a little too aggressive.

I bought the R1250R instead and am extremely happy with it.

If you don't like the ergos then the R would seem the right choice. I like the leant forward riding position and find the bike extremely comfortable in the main; I'd probably prefer the knees to be slightly less bent, but that's only apparent after many hours in the saddle. I'm not sure I'd like to lower the pegs, they go down easily enough as it is.

One of the common fixes for the RS seems to be putting the bars from the R on. You can buy a bar from Wunderlich for about £300. Alternatively, the 25mm up, 35mm back risers for the factory bars are about £130.

Surprised at the above comments, I guess we're all different shapes and sizes. I have a few bikes I have access to, the R1250RS is probably one of the only bikes I can now ride for '00's of miles a day and be comfortable for every single one. One of the best all round bikes imo, I'd buy one if I had the cash.

Had mine a few months now. I like the forward lean position, but I always preferred that, struggle with sit up straight bikes. Knees are fairly acute but I don’t find it a problem so far.

The only thing I struggle with is positioning the screen. In it’s low position my head is completely in the wind, might as well be riding a naked, in the higher position I get a lot wind blast around my helmet. I left it this year to get used to it but Looking at a screen extension for next year. I’m 6’1” it wouldn’t be a problem I think if you’re shorter.

I also prefer the lower weight c of g and seat height compared to the GS, but again very much a personnel thing.

To add, I did a 200 run straight from the dealer when I collected it, very comfortable and nothing has changed that opinion since, a real mile muncher!

I had a 2015 model for 3 years (approved used, it went back last year) and as such I hope I can give a little insight. I am 6’3 with a 34” inside leg for reference. The bike was used for regular 200 mile journeys and as such it was important to get comfortable. After a few changes, genuinely I found the bike to be the equal of the 2012 r1200rt I had before. In order to get a bit more legroom I purchased the expensive (but very good) taller Wunderlich seat - it is a little firm, but you get used to it and the seat also allows you to move forward and back a bit which really helps. I purchased some bar risers but ended up not fitting them - after c500 miles my body adjusted to the new position and even with the higher sear I had no discomfort. The one area I did need to address was the screen though. After a bit of trial and error I went with the barn-door Givi item, doesn’t look pretty but rivals the rt screen in the up position for effectiveness.

Rather than lowering the pegs, you can get a higher seat which should give a bit more legroom.

Based on checking past bikes which I've been comfortable on, on cycle-ergo.com, I am looking for a maximum of 10 or 11 degrees of forward lean. More than 10-11 degrees and the bike will just piss me off.

How roomy is the RS seat? The forward lean off cycle-ergo depends on if you place yourself in the center of the seat, or at the front of the seat.

These are with the bar riser added in already.

SITTING IN CENTER OF SEAT

SITTING AT THE FRONT OF THE SEAT

Is the seat big enough that sitting like in the front diagram seems reasonable?

I'd just test ride one to find out, since I'd be adding bar risers, I don't think the test ride on an unmodified bike would tell me.

What exactly is the advantage of the RS over the R?

It sounds to me like what you want is an RT.

I think what most of us want is the seating position of the GS without having to pay for the off road capability which we won't use.

RS is too head down, R and even RT are a bit cramped by comparison, the K1600 is about right seating wise but has other complications.....

Fairing, it looks nicer. More common to find with luggage.

get a longer test ride explain what you want you're the customer - using computer for seat position graphics is pointless

i got two days from a dealer in the north, but took it back after a day, wind blast and the headache at Mways speeds was too much - shame cause it was fine in every other dpt

I'm another who bought an R1250R after testing the RS. More comfortable for me and less wind noise were the main reasons.

The headache was caused by the wind blast? How tall are you if you don’t mind my asking?
I’ve got my eye on the 1250RS so it looks like I’d better made damn sure before I buy.
