What makes you decide to change bikes?
Discussion
Its just a question really, I have a nice 4 year old Multistrada but I've had my head turned by a 1 year old Triumph Tiger Rally Pro, i did a tiny bit of green laning in Scotland on the Mulit (wasn't intentional as we took a dodgy turn) but i enjoyed it even though the Multi didn't which has got me thinking about a bike that could handle a bit more green laning than the Multi can do.
Problem is I'd have to put a few pound notes more than i was expecting to the new deal, which is something i wasn't expecting due to the part ex value given against my bike, its not a moan against the dealer this, just wondered what makes you pull the plug when you suddenly change the bike...

I'm interested in how other bikes ride to see if there's a better one, it's why I started trading in them - so I could ride lots of different bikes
I never sell my old bike until I've tried the new one for a few rides and I generally have a few for different things rather than one expensive one

This, plus boredom. I also started a garage business which deals with bikes so I could get access to some more unusual stuff. The down/up (delete as appropriate) side is i’m now fairly convinced I should start building custom bikes!
The only bike I ever decided to change quickly was a Honda SP1 which I brought with me to heavily policed Australia. I quickly realised that the bike only rode the slightly corrugated road surface in a normal manner at about 160kmh (100mph) or above… the chances of getting caught riding at that speed were also extremely high.
So I sold it and bought a KTM enduro.

When the balance between maintaining/repairing/replacing parts starts to get close to the cost of just paying a couple grand for a new one
Example is my 2019 Tuono, now about to click 20,000 miles. Been absolutely brilliant, few warranty bits needed but starting to show a bit of wear in places. To get real fresh, service suspension, bits that are chipped etc Vs buying a new 21 model is now more cost effective
If it's a classic this goes out the window but purely for new or nearly new bikes

I just want to try as many bikes as I can. I usually change one a year but I loved my 2017 triumph speed triple 1050R so much that I kept it for 2.
I've just changed it for a Ducati Multistrada 1200s DVT Touring as I fancy doing longer trips and extending the riding season with the better weather protection.

Seat was uncomfy on the MT07!
Had it 3 years to get back in to biking but after 3 years I wanted something different. I fancied a Triple and my local dealer offered me a very good PX against an in stock '21 MT09-SP so I shook his hand.
Having demo'd the SP a couple of months back, it felt like a huge leap up from the MT07. Smoother, quicker (obviously), better sound track, handled better, much comfier, and the quickshifter just left me with a smile on my face! Jumping back on the MT07 made me want to change the bike ASAP.
Was looking at changing in Spring '22 but due to possible supply issues and possible price rises next year, I jumped on the chance.
Had it delivered a couple of days ago - now longing for the warm spring/summer days!
