Learned and passed on a DT125 in 1989 (already been driving for 10 years), then immediately got a slab-sided GSXR750 with Yoshimura cams and exhaust (still one of the best bikes I've owned).

Were you sensible and progressed through the (power) ranks, or not?

Interested to know your choice and why!

Passed in '98 bought a brand new ZX-6R (G1) lasted about 2-3 months before I wrote it off, the night of the world cup final as I recall.

Insurance bought me another new ZX-6R... had that until 2000 then my Ducati ownership began.

XJ750 as it was my landlords old bike and he'd just upgraded to a CBR1000 and loaned me his old bike for several months until I bought myself a TDM850. Never really been that interested in sports bikes so my biking history could probably be described as "sensible" biggrin

eta: did my test on a CG125 so the XJ was a pretty big step up hehe

Passed my test on an MZ TS 150 then progresses to a 1968 Triumph T100T Daytona, closely followed by a 1975 Honda 400/4 F1 which was a much better bike (the Triumph had no been well looked after but I got what I paid for it trade in).

In 2009 when I was 17 I passed on a CG125, went out and bought a 1999 Fazer 600 a few days later. Had to be restricted to 33bhp for 2 years but still comfier and quicker than a 125/250.

Passed my test on an elderly Triumph Tiger Cub in 1981. I was broke, so kept it for a year, then chopped it in for an RD250E when I needed something reliable for dispatch work. Hmmmm … seemed like a good idea at the time. Alas.

Passed on a DT175 (registered as a 125) in 1990

I was a student and used it to travel into Uni but living in scumsville I had people trying to steal it and draining the petrol out, then the gearbox seized so I sold it, decided to wait until I could ride with a bit more restraint before buying another

Fast forward nearly 30 years I wanted to go green laning so bought a KTM 450 RFS I loved it so wanted something similar for the road so I bought a KTM 690 Duke - cracking bike for blatting about the local lanes and arguably my first proper road bike

Passed my test in '94 on a Honda MTX 125 and not long after I bought myself an RD350YPVS.

Dropped out of bikes for about 10 years from the age of 21 as I couldn't afford to run a car and a bike, but then came back with a FZR1000, FZR600 and now on an R6 (13 years).

Passed my A2 at 17 in 2008 on my restricted two stroke Aprilia RS125. Took it to a garage later that day to get it derestricted. Had enormous fun on it for a few months until I got my Triumph Speed Four (restricted to 33hp for two years).

Did 2 years on L plates on a 125 before buying a ZZR600 in 1990 after passing my test, didn't bother with a car test until 8 years later when I needed to for work.

I dont know what I was doing with my jeans in my boots smile

Suzuki RF600. Not the sharpest tool but went well enough after stepping off a CG125. I passed in May 1995 & parked the little Honda up at the riding school at Donny racecourse & drove straight to Carnell’s to see what they had. I was set on a CBR600 but these were all out of budget so L131 CKL was mine. It was very red & a bit sci-fi looking but I was chuffed. Kept it for a year or so then traded up to a YZF750R. Happy days.

Did my CBT and got a MT125, passed last year and got a Husqvarna Svartpilen 701, I think its been a great bike to build confidence on. It's so easy to ride with its light weight, I've done Salisbury plains on it, been on track. Bought a street triple 765 RS which I'm going to be taking on track more but will keep the 701 too.

I passed my test on my Honda CJ250T then just removed the L plates. frown As a student I couldn't afford to do anything else. I then went to some CX500s followed by a Yamaha XS850 then to a BMW R100RS. It was a slow progress regarding capacity increases but that was money restricted (both purchase price and insurance costs) rather than anything else.

My ex-wife passed her test on a hired Honda CG125 with her first bike being a Yamaha FJ1200.
