With a new bike incoming I’m wondering about bike security. Before I kept the bike on the drive with a disc lock until I broke it and then just left it without one. No problems. Ive moved now and although there is less crime, it’s more rural so less chance of someone seeing something.

Ive got a garage that is attached to the block of flats, but there is no power to it. It’s an up and over style. There are two windows that aren’t that secure (I think single pane).

I’m thinking of a ground anchor in the corner and a decent chain. Any suggestions would be great.

Don’t want to go over the top as if someone really wants it they’ll take it. I’d rather they took it and didn’t try and get into the flat to get it etc.

Can anyone recommend a tracker as well.

Brace yourself, you are about to get everything from-
'i'd just use the steering lock, if they want it, they will have it'
to
'i have a chain, ground anchor, disc lock, reinforced door, barrier, CCTV, house alarm, and a private security firm on call'.

I'm in the camp of just enough security that they won't come in the house and persuade me to remove the security, so i stop at a garage door barrier, and a big chain/lock on each bike.

For an garage like you have, I'd be wanting at least a pragmasis or similar chain, lock and ground anchor, and maybe some improvements in door/window security, but there would be little point IMO going further than that.

Plus one on Pragmasis. I use that and an anti pinch pin to make a circuit to the ground anchor.

Do you have enough room for a security shed?

Thanks both smile.

Nah no room for a security shed. Don’t have a garden just the garage and it won’t fit inside. Plus a lot more than I want to spend ha.

I'd do something so that you can't see through the windows. No need to bump up security there as it's not like a thief could easily get a motorbike out of a window.

Get a ground anchor and a 16-19mm Pragmasis/Almax chain. Anything less can be bolt cropped, anything more is only buying you a few extra seconds if someone attacks with an angle grinder so not really worth the additional expense.

I've got a MoniMoto tracker that I'm pleased with. I've never had to use it to find the bike thankfully, but think it comes in at a good price point, can check to see when it last contacted your bike and isn't connected to the bikes battery which helps with not draining the battery and also less conspicuous to hide on the bike.

Id go for a decent ground anchor (i went for the Torc Mega) and a Pragmasis 16mm chain.

Anything less than 16mm can be cut with bolt cutters.

I found Pragmasis great to deal with too, very helpful and great easy to follow instructions

Id also black out the windows to stop anyone looking in (assuming they are too small for someone to get in). If they are id add bars to stop them getting in that way.

Also a wee battery PIR alarm secured to the roof / protected in rear wall. Yes they can smash it to bits to stop it but at least it will make a bit of noise first and might alert folk.

That would put off most thieves to be honest. Someone would have to bring a cordless cutter and hope no one responded to the noise of the alarm / grinder being used.

Windows are already blocked up and looks like it’s just full of ste.

Funny enough I just watched a review on YouTube about that tracker and it looked good! Will properly end up getting it.

Treat the 'up and over' door as if there was no door. Those things are stupid easy to get into and lost a KTM EXC as a result.

One of those remote alarms which connect to your phone, maybe a battery bank will do it.

My three babies are garaged with ground anchors and Monster chains through the back wheels with an alarm disk lock on the front wheels.
Monimoto tracker on the ZX10r and Datatool tracker on the GS Adventure.
Enduro bike has two ground anchors and Monster chains through front and back wheels and an alarm disk lock.
All are hidden with covers as well.
Irritating the lengths you have to go to just to keep the theiving scum at bay but that’s the reality of owning a nice bike in this country.
