Hello Jay, there are several mini Honda riders here, and some with chinese copies.

What do I see here ? Honda engine converted to hand clutch, how many gears ?

How many cc, carb type & size ?

I have a classic ST 70 which was legally converted to 85cc in the 70s :

From the dark side : A SkyTeam SkyMax that was legally sold with 160cc & USD

I replaced & beefed up many components of the chassis to accomodate a 212cc 4-valve,

swingarm + 12cm, frame extended, fork rake 5°, pullback-style bar, loads more.

Time & cost estimates flew out of every window, ( not continuously ) working more than 3 years on "AniMax",

hope to have a roll-out this winter, then take it apart again for paint & coating.

Sissy bar is U-Lock, luggage rack without visible bolts

Rear guard is welded from 5 guards, radiussed, extended, ducktailed, double LED lights hidden, boxed, invisible bolts

For the 70s nostalgia look, it had to be metalflaked...8-))

Met him at RAF Kinloss. He was a lot shorter than I thought he was going to be!

Here’s mine. My Dad bought it in 1992 and taught me how to ride in the back garden on it. I did a full nut & bolt resto on it in 2013, documented it all for my NVQ engineering project. If anyone wants to see, search on instagram under the hashtag GWC581T, it’s all on there.

That it is…great photos!

The Dax’s do look proper funky, you can do so much with them as well.

Im still in love with my YSR80, its off to Mick Abbeys in a few weeks for him to knock up a bespoke expansion chamber for it and a light tune…cant wait to ride ir again after that.

I've a strange compulsion to build a wide wheeled custom cub, much like ones below, but can't seem to find a decent donor bike for sensible money currently.

Likewise but they’re all silly money. I remember when a C90 was £5-600 tops

Not quite the same, but I do have a Japanese import C90.

12v electrics, round headlight, single seat (although I do have a removable pillion seat)

I absolutely love it, it’s still got all of the stickers in Japanese, including it’s registration sticker. I think it’s cool, although other bikers don’t seem to! Has an original Honda big screen, although I’ve removed it. I think the round light and single seat make for a better looking bike than the UK spec 12v Cubs.

I ride it more often (although less far…) than my MV Agusta. So much fun down tiny country lanes, it’ll do 55mph, but 40-45mph is more comfortable. Enjoy the scenery, less pants on fire than normal.

I ended up with this as for a long time I was looking for an imported Ape, but could only find 50cc ones, and ideally was after a 100cc. No regrets.

Although if the right Ape came up, I’m sure I could find space to add it.

You’re right on prices though, I think we may be at peak cub prices. I’ve had it for a while, but to get one similar to mine seems to be £2000-2500 now. Frustrating as they used to be so cheap, £50 and a packet of gum. Having said that, they’re so cheap to run and tinker with, and I love it so much, that the smiles per pound is still pretty damn good, and if I didn’t have one I wouldn’t mind spending that.

Me too. You can add another £1000 to that price nowadays.

Totally with you on that for country lane fun also really fancy a Honda Ape 100 Four stroke barn in Holland have a nice example in yellow, it was on offer but the costs to get it here made it difficult to justify
