Me and my brother have both started learning to ride this year (pure coincidence) and we've gone down different routes. He passed his CBT with Honda MK and then bought a 125 to practice on his own. I'm up in Nottingham and have been learning on a 650 with a bike school that was recommended by a few bikers I know. I think he's looking at the proper tuition route as the better option now as my instructor already wants me to get my MOD1 booked in.

Has anyone on here got any recommendations for bike schools in MK? I'm trying to help him find somewhere that's got some credibility and a few decent reviews from people who have actually used them.

Can highly recommend Ridewell training. Based in a village just North of MK, but training is generally in MK. He took me and 2 friends through CBT then I decided to go on to do the full licence. Passed both mod 1 and mod 2 first time. He's relaxed and friendly, but makes sure you're ready for test and riding beyond. Also very good value.

Just out of interest (Being nosey) who are you using in Nottingham? I know Bike Torque use ER6s and Roadcraft have a couple of CB650Rs along side their MT07s.

I'm using Bike Torque. Both of the instructors have been excellent so far, the training seems to be focussed on real world riding first and how to pass a test second.

I've got nothing to compare it to but I actually quite like the ER6. I'm considering getting one once I've got my licence so I can carry on learning on something I'm familiar with and then swapping it for something I really want a bit later on.

Ah Steve and Ken! Really nice guys. I did my CBT with them a good while ago.

Friend of mine has been learning with them (Martyn, long daft hair and a daft designer beard!) he has his Mod 2 on 24th at Colwick.

ER6 is a lovely bike, just be cautious on the insurance, for some reason they came out quite expensive, I managed to insurer a GSF1200 for less than half of what an ER6N would have been when I first passed.

Good luck and I'll probably see you out on the road!

Thanks the advice guys. I've passed the details on to my brother, fingers crossed he can get some lessons booked in.

Cheers for the heads up on the insurance too. Hadn't actually got as far as considering insurance costs.

This sub forum certainly seems much friendlier than the rest of Pistonheads. clap
