So my R1200GS (2005) model is starting to show it's age - looking a little rusty/tatty at 78K miles, the ABS finally failed so I converted to a traditional system. I did the coils a year or so ago and keep it serviced - never fails to start and runs fine.

Really enjoy riding the bike, but it's probably worth not far off what I paid and I think a little more power might be nice. Use it for running errands, occasional commuting and have been touring (and would like to do again).

New bike time? But what? £10k to play with.

Obvious answer is another R1200GS (R1250 probably a little rich for my blood). Would likely go a 2014ish adventure model for the taller seat (at 6 foot 3, my standard model can be a little cramped on really long rides).

I love the new Africa Twin - could be a contender, but worry not as comfortable as the GS and I don't need off-road ability (outside of gravel driveway or the occasional farm track when visiting friends).

Like the look of the K1300s as well - I do enjoy sit up and beg.

Have I missed anything? KTM? Kawasaki? Yamaha? Tiger?

Welcome any input!!

There’s a few fairly new Tiger 900s for under £10.5k on eBay, not a bad bike at all. About the same power as the GS.

If you like GSes, a 2016 or so GS at that price is significantly better than your current bike in every dimension. Engine, gearbox, brakes, suspension, lighting, even the mirrors…

Which will be at least £6k above the OP's budget hehe

The KTM SD1290GT is definitely worth a look.

I know it's slightly over budget by ~£1.5k but the new Suzuki Sports Tourer may be worth a look:

In my fairly considerbale experience a K1300 will be a complete money pit. Avoid it like the plague.

Most will now need a new radiator (£600 plus labor).

Ball joints (similar to the above).

ESA refurb (similar to the above).

FD rebuild (nearer £1k ime).

That's before you even get to the corrosion......

I may have a slightly accident damaged but perfectly rideable 67 plate GS 1200 going shortly depending on what the insurance engineer tells me tomorrow for a lot less than £10k

Up in SE Scotland tho’.

Ducati multistrada 1200s DVT touring.

It's where my 8-9k is going. I did want the superduke GT but will wait until I can get the 2019 version now.

BIL has just bought a 15 plate triumph tiger explorer 1200 with just 1600.miles for £7700. It's a hell of a lot of bike for the money.

Thanks for the offer, probably a little far for me smile Much appreciated though.

Appreciate all the input everyone - will get some test drives booked in, a few bikes I hadn't considered on the list. Cheers all.

Have a look at the F850GS too. 10/10.5 would get you a nearly new, low mile approved used with a very high spec. Not quite as ‘flash’ as the 1200/1250 but still a great bike.

I’ve picked up a 1200 s DVT Multi in the Spring, it’s really impressive, the Enduro version with 19” front wheel would give a bit more offroad ability.
