Bike recommendation for short arse Mrs Fb
Discussion
Need some ideas please fellow riders,
Mrs Fb currently has a CB500 FA naked thing which is actually a cracking little bike. She’s now decided she wants something bigger but has added a nice twist, she likes the sort of upright riding position of a naked, but wants some wind protection like a faired bike would offer. Add into the mix she is 5ft 3 and I already had to lower the day lights out of her CB500 , so stretching 2 miles forwards to reach the bars on a sports bike would be very uncomfortable for her.
So throw up some suggestions to bikes around 600-800cc, sub 200kg wet, low seat height and some wind protection but still upright’ish riding position . I’ve just typed that out and realised I’m pretty much looking for a unicorn really aren’t I ?
Her current Cb500 as idea of what she rides now

ER6f / ninja 650.
Ran the Ninja 650 through the ergonomic calculator and it’s actually very close to her current bike position, only downside is the power of the 650 is very low compared to others at only 67hp, the CBR650 is 90odd hp which is a stark increase but not quite as a nice a riding position Fb

You want another woman to join you and your wife for a no emotional attachments sexual relationship?Isn't that what we're all looking for?
You stand more chance of finding a perfect sportsbike for a short-arsed lady-rider!

Get her a test ride on one. 70hp doesn't sound like a lot, but the bike gets up to 80ish pretty quickly. I suppose it depends on how fast she wants to go.
We actually looked at the naked z650 recently but haven’t test ridden one yet. Her current bike is 50ish hp and she’s definitely looking for a moderate increase, another 20 would be noticeable for sure but is it enough to stop her wanting more again in 6 months. I thinks she would be happy long term with something around 90-100hp range from what I know of her. Won’t hurt to test one though and at least see how she feels about it

MT07 tracer? I know they used to do a low seat and linkage, not sure now though.
Tracer not a bad shout !Pothole said:
The last model Tiger 800 was quite adjustable in terms of seat height and ride height. My brother in law had a lowered one with the low saddle and I could almost get my feet flat on it (29" inside leg) Upright and decent screen/fairing.
Showed her a Tiger, safe to say that’s a no ! What she really wants is a Ducati Monster 821 and another shorter lady rider has one we see frequently. Problem is lack of wind protection again. I think she will probably just settle for the Monster, but open to other suggestions
Probably best to just give up and get an 821 then! Might also be worth looking at a 797 as it falls in the middle of the power from her current bike, but very light being air cooled.
FWIW the screen on my monster is surprisingly effective, I imagine a rider 7"shorter than me will find it even more so.

What screen have you got on your monster ? I’ve got a Puig one on my B-King and I still can’t decide if it does anything or not !FWIW the screen on my monster is surprisingly effective, I imagine a rider 7"shorter than me will find it even more so.

Just the tiny little screen around the clocks - it looks like it won't do a thing, but you can really feel it once you're up to motorway speeds, below that it's not really an issue. With that and the comfort seat it's really very comfy.
The new triumph trident based ‘tiger’ may fit the brief:

And to summarise we got there in the end.
Did my usual due diligence looking at specs of various bikes focusing mainly on seat height, wet weight and preferably a large twin to keep the bike narrow. One that seems to come up a really good option was the MT07. Very narrow, low seat height and very very lite. We went and looked at a dealer and sat on a few, perfect. It would have wanted lowering a fraction but essentially it ticked all the boxes.
Speaking to a few people though and it soon became obvious that the MT07 wasn’t the greatest, and the suspension gets a real slating as being less than confidence inspiring and woolly.
Lots of online chat suggested the Street Triple was the MT07’s nearest competitor but absolutely worlds ahead in every aspect. Speaking to Mrs Fb I suggested we looked at a Street Triple at our local triumph a whopping 1 mile down the road. Turns out it’s the bike she’s loved the most and always wanted one ! If only I was a mind reader eh.
Anyways thanks for all the suggestions, here’s her 2015 675R which is a right hoot to ride, 106hp, quick shifter, SC Project exhaust , crash bungs, fly screen and a nice full 12k done by Triumph before collection.
