What next after SV650S?
Discussion
Hi,
Did DAS beginning of last year and then spent most of last year riding my 2000 SV650S curvy. Never been a big fan of the gaping alien head it has for a half fairing but was good to get about 6 to 8k miles experience on.
Now toying with replacing it as it now doesn’t really feel that quick for a bike, and feel the type of bike it is probably lends itself better for the naked version in performance and looks!
Bike would be used for mix of commuting some days of the week, bit of very occasional longer distance / touring and otherwise fun rides out on weekends and the odd week day evening.
Like V twin as conscious a revvy inline four might encourage me to keep it singing whilst my licence would be less happy inevitably! Triple I also like, but find the fixed headlight of the triumphs ugly.
Suggestions welcome, budget say around 3k.
Thanks!
Ps. I have Kevlar jeans and textile jacket, no leathers (yet).

The issue you may well have is that all the inline-4 600's etc are gutless low down in comparison to the SV.
If you're considering a 4 then I'd go at least 750cc.
I did personally very much like the Triumph 675 though.
VFR750/800 would probably work very well for you. My wife said of my VFR750 after going on the back that it felt the same as the SV...except that just as she was expecting me to change up it took off instead as it hit the power!
It's not mentally crazy top end like the 600's or later 750's though.

What about an SV1000? You can get them naked or faired pointy style, like the 650 but faster.
Was going to suggest this too. Quite a bit more powerful, but simple and reliable 1000 VTwin engine that they still make today (1050 VStrom)https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_t...

I went from a SV650s (K5) to a SV1000 (K6) about 3 months ago. Feels a bit more planted than the 650 and the front suspension gives more feel than the 650’s did, the power increase is quite nice too
For your budget you should be able to get a good one quite easily, mine cost me 2.2 about 3 months ago with 17k on the clock.
I also looked at Millie’s / Tuono & Falco’s which would no doubt handle better as standard but electrical horror stories from a friend with one put me off although that could be said of any bike in this price bracket.
Good luck with the search and gratuitous SV photo… not that I’m biased of course

As mentioned above, I forgot about the gen 1 tuono's, Had a 04 plate 4 years ago. Still miss it.
Similar power to the SV1000 but must handle way better. The engines are bulletproof (austrian) but yeah minor electrical niggles. Had the indicator switchgear go on me but fitted a new one quite easily. Needs a higher amperage something-something (forgot what it was) to start it easier and a better side stand (fireblade worked for me). Bit fugly but a barrel of laughs to ride.
