Don't have one myself but worth noting if you have one. Goes back to 2014 models apparantly.

I thought this was pretty well-known already? Any modern phone with a decent camera is susceptible.

Never knew this but I don't mount my phone on my bike, I did wonder why the quadlock had a vibration dampener but assumed it was just a gimmick; the blurb on their website says "The level of vibration from some motorcycles can affect the image stabilisation on new smartphones. The Quad Lock Vibration Dampener ensures you can confidently mount your smartphone to any motorcycle.".

Quadlock with the vibration damper, iPhone 12. Mounted to 1000cc v-twin.

2400 miles done so far with no issues.

I learnt the hard way,

Iphone 11 pro, Quadlock without the damper.. Destroyed my camera within around 5 rides, I contacted Quadlock, they were great and sent me out a damper FOC, and contacted Apple who replaced the camera on the phone FOC, and it works perfectly.

I must admit, I have used the Quadlock since, even with the damper on.

Is there any guarantee from Quadlock about the effectiveness of the damper?

Quite how this is trending on the BBC as news is mental.

Typical apple. Its the motorbikes fault not our phone excuse.

I've had a quadlock with vibration dampener for nearly a year/6000 miles and my p30 pro has been fine.

I have the same now, although it's annoying that you have to pay extra for it, it should be built in.

As we've seen from the poster above they do a decent job and replaced the camera, even so it's user caused rather than an inherent fault.

It’s not just an iPhone thing, it’s just that they’ve put out a press release saying don’t do it.

Obviously, finding that out would take ten minutes of research, so the bbc hasn’t.

My 1290cc V2 managed to churn through a few iPhones, but to be fair, both were replaced by Apple.

More manufacturers could do with adding Apple CarPlay.

Personally I think it's a positive thing that such a respected media outlet has put pressure on Apple to actually fix this problem.

Covid has gone and it's been quiet on the Brexit front lately so they've ran out of things to talk about.

How about the bikes fixing the vibration problem? Must destroy many of those ‘good old boys’ joints.

Easy fix, buy a K1600GT with its super-smooth 6-pot.

Had this with both Apple and Samsung tbf. Not a particularly vibey bike - XJ6-N (IL4) - but it's taken out a camera on an iPhone 8 (the auto focus screwed up so couldn't take a non-blurry photo), Apple charged about £50-60 if I recall to repair it but did provide 90 days warranty on the camera after that. And then more recently it's broken the vibration motor in my Galaxy S20 (after only 1-2 rides). Never bothered getting it repaired.

Have since purchased the QuadLock vibration damper and there's been no further damage to my S20 since using that. We'll see how well the next phone survives with the damper from day 1.
