Do you ride other people's bikes?
Discussion
Inspired by the 'dropped bike' thread.
Do you ever swap bikes with mates to compare?
I've only ever done this once, as I'm always worried I'm either going to drop/crash their bike, or they will do the same to mine. Especially as dropping it seems to be driven by stupid things such as getting trousers caught, or putting your foot on gravel, it's not usually caused by riding stupidly.

Yep when I can, I generally ride with people of similar ability and have no issues letting them have a go, on the understanding that we are big boys and if it gets damaged you are going to pay to put it right, which was a little worrying when Loon gave me the key for his then new HP4!
Yes. I ride other peoples bikes and they ride mine. We all understand - you bend it, you mend it.
On a couple of occasions I happily lent my bike to a friend from the states who came over to join us on an Old Gits trip.
I also lent my bike to a friend from Australia. That loan ended up being for nearly two years. I was happy to do that as it meant he could join in a couple of Old Gits trips and do a few ride outs.
At the end of the day, a bike is just a pile of metal and plastic and is completely replaceable. While no one wants to either break someone else's bike, or have their bike broken, I know I've shared some 'never to be repeated' great times with good friends because of someone riding someone else's bike.

I'm borrowing a mate's S1000R and taking it up the Highlands in a few weeks.
I can't say I really think about it beyond making sure it's insured, road legal, and I have enough cash to cover any accidents.
I "never go full retard" with someone elses vehicle though.
I'd not ride anything third party more than a couple of miles if I couldn't afford to fix it. Too stressful.

Used to all the time without question but since my mate dropped my R1 I've been more reticent. Once it was all fixed I immediately traded it in for a new bike; I've never owned a brand new vehicle before and I don't want to risk this one. It's a bit of a quandary though as its nice to swap bike and I'd be interested in friends opinions of the new bike but if it were to be dropped I'd be even more gutted than I was with my 6yo R1.
I remember swapping bikes with a friend once around Wales many moons ago, he had my ZXR750, I on his YZF750 - I remember watching him getting the left hander wrong trying to keep up and drifting across to the other side of the road, I did wonder what he was doing over there at the time.
Mind you, he used to run out of talent quite often, frequently arriving at our destination with grass stuck in his boots, the left or the right and sometimes both...
