So I’m on my 2nd street triple (675 and now a 765RS) and now my missus comes out a lot more, I’m after a change.

I want something to:

-Soaks up England’s terrible roads
-Comfortable for both passenger/rider
-Still able to excite me when I’m out on my own without going silly.

Been looking at adv bikes, really like the Africa twin, but worries it may be a little underpowered plus I’m never going off road. Rode a superduke gt last year, which was great, although I don’t need 170hp! Budget up to £10k I would say, would rather it be less though!

Happy to hear your opinions!

If you've got room then n+1 bikes sounds just the job... Something fun for your own and comfy for touring.

The mighty Aprilia Caponord ETV!

Ducati Diavel with suspension tweaks.

In an ideal world yes, but with my budget, both would be a compromise, plus then it’s 2x insurance, 2x Tax etc

The Diavel has always been on my radar, with the rear pillion backrest, this could still be a good shout!

I've just put a deposit down on a diavel carbon... I think it combines a semi sporting nature with comfort you can ride all day

It also looks pretty cool

Might be worth a ride

Tiger 900

Fast enough, comfy for two, great handling, looks fab.

Or Yamaha Tracer 9 same as above with a belter of an engine and a challenging dashboard.

One bike is probably just as much...

Tbh I'd think about a multistrada 1200 if it was me, Tiger 900 above is maybe a good shout too.

I think anything comfy enough for touring (and not the mega power bikes like SDGT or S1000XR) will probably feel a bit tame after a 765RS though.

I think you've answered your own question. No one needs 170bhp, but that doesn't stop us enjoying it.

I had a very similar brief and ended up on a multistrada 1200s PP.

It’s great fun (I’m really amazed at how good it is to throw around) and the missus is very happy on the back. Very pleased with it.

Adv are popular for a reason. KTM or Ducati would probably fit the bill.

I went for a 1290gt and it does do many things so well… why don’t you want one?

If it’s just that it has too a much power, change gear earlier!!! It’s nice to have so much grunt all over the rev range in any gear! It’s pretty effortless two up and is genuine superbike rapid ( all be it one a few years old now!) if you are in the mood. But its also a lovely thing to cruise around at the speed limits.

A gsx1000s is a great bike if you don’t want the latest Uber naked. Still able to get down the road pretty handsomely and great value.

Having recently gone through something similar my advice is to take your good lady with you to look at all the options and sit on them; once you know the bikes that she'll be comfy with you have a shortlist from which you can pick the one that suits you best. You are going to end up with something less agile than the STR's you're used to, 1290GT looks a good shout. My missus was too wary of the height of things like Multistrada's, GS's etc. and I prefer sports tourers anyway so Sprint GT, VFR1200F, FJR1300, R1200RS was the kind of thing I boiled it down to, although I'd have loved a Z900RS if I could have got on with the saddle half as well as her maj.

We've just completed an 1100 mile Highland tour, have nothing to grumble about with the bike, and are planning the next trip ASAP, which is surely a sign that we're both happy with the choice.

It is a great bike but I wouldn't say its particularly great for pillions. Plus the rear shock is crap (just changed mine for a Ktech razor r) so that would need to be factored in if buying new/unmodded

1290GT or S1000XR for me I think.
