Just had a read about the Artisan to see how far electric bikes were on, compared to cars. It appears not very.
Claimed 80 mile range but that’s at 28mph. On test it achieved 29 miles!! Oh and the battery can’t be removed for recharging, so you have to park next to a power source or run an extension cable out.
Much more work required before I’d be tempted as a commuter. My commute is a 30 mile round trip including hills and national speed limit stuff.
Anyway bikes are excluded from the ICE ban for now so unless you’re an eco warrior it seems daft to give up the proper stuff for electric.

Bikes aren't excluded, just an extra 5 years.. Claimed 80 mile range but that’s at 28mph. On test it achieved 29 miles!! Oh and the battery can’t be removed for recharging, so you have to park next to a power source or run an extension cable out.

As I've said before, what will kill ICE bikes, especially for commuting, is not the law requiring that no new ICE bikes are sold, but the availability and price of petrol. Anyone who thinks petrol will remain readily available and affordable is being a little naive, Given the UN report that's just been published and the fact that following COVID the country is broke, I expect to see significant tax hikes in petrol. As more cars become electric, so the number of petrol stations will reduce. That'll take a few years I know, but it will make getting fuel progressively more difficult.

To be fair that's the equivalent of a 50cc moped rather than a bike, it's a bit like looking at G-Wizz and saying electric car's are all a bit crap Claimed 80 mile range but that’s at 28mph. Something like a Zero SR/S will do 80+ miles or 100+mph (I suspect not both though), and you can get a bigger battery pack for more range (and weight). They're about £20k though.

Friend of mine has an electric bike with a claimed range of 65 miles, he has yet to get anywhere near that though. In optimal conditions riding like a Saint, he may... Just may... Get 45 miles though he has been adviced never to let the battery go below 10% chargeSomething like a Zero SR/S will do 80+ miles or 100+mph (I suspect not both though), and you can get a bigger battery pack for more range (and weight). Other issue he finds frustrating is as the battery depletes, performance becomes limited. We went on a short (All he can do) run other day and he said he was struggling to get the thing over 35mph after we'd only covered 25 miles or so.
Fine for commuting, but not much else.
