After a Rocket 3 GT. Doubt a private owner will let me have a go.

Dealers don't have any demos and I don't like pretending when I have no intention of buying.

It's not a style of bike I've ever ridden before, so could be an expensive mistake if I don't get on with it.

Do I pay the cash with an agreement to change my mind within the hour? Not sure the best way to go about it.

No way I would agree to that if I were selling.

The idea is if I break it on a test ride, I've already bought it.

Not sure of a way round it really.

Dealers have test rides built into their budget so find one at a dealer for sale and ask if you can have a go.

If you are that worried put some fuel in it or some money in the air ambulance or other charity of your choice.

They're such an expensive bike how much cheaper would a privately sold one be?

Test ride a used one at a dealers, and if you're not sure if it's the bike for you buy it on PCP and hand it back at the end of the term?

It's not a practical motorcycle is it. How are you going to use it? It's an emotional purchase so I am not sure applying logic about the expense works.

I watched that chap in Portugal or Spain on YouTube, the one that calls himself Rocket Man, and he seemed to spend a lot of time trying to justify reasons for getting out of of a Rocket 3 and not keeping it.

If its about the style / riding position / handling then go find a Ducati dealer, they love people taking demos as they often convert, so be careful, go ride a Diavel, that will be enough to tell you whether that style / riding position etc will suit you and they have plenty of new and used bikes you can test ride across the dealers .... just an idea but could help make the decision ... I rode one, discovered I hated it, having my feet ahead of my knees gave me the same feeling as nails down a chalkboard ...

Have a test ride from a dealer it's what they're there for. If you're that worried about wasting their time oncce you get your bike get it serviced by that dealer to compensate them

I've got a street triple in need of a service, so I've been ringing round to get a test ride while I wait. There's only one and he's being a right bell end. He says they've got one, but not on demo but I can have a go if not sold. I told him no problem, let's go for it, if you sell it before I come in, can I try a new speed triple instead.

He replied, if you're not sure what bike you want, make an appointment to speak to our sales and we can discuss what you want out of a bike and what bike is best for you blah blah. Even though I replied im quite sure I want a rocket, he hasn't wrote back! (I took my bike for a service there last time too)

I don't think I want to give him my business now either due to bellendry.

How far north are you?

I've heard good things about Premier Bikes in Oxford, someone I know bought a bike unseen from them and had it delivered and it was in great condition. They seem to have three used Rocket 3 in stock.

I've only spoken to them once on the phone with a general inquiry, they were helpful but it was near the end of the day, possibly on a Friday, and their sales people had left for the day.

Take a day off and get yours serviced there and try a Rocket 3 at the same time?

My brother took a Rocket 3 out from Wellingborough Triumph for an hour or so the other week, he then went back the following day and took it out for another hour or so...

I think you need to get over the hang up of "wasting dealers time" , never know, they may be able to get hold of the bike you want for your budget, if not, you both move on..

I'm booked in elsewhere and the closest they've got is a bobber, so I'll try that. I'll look for somewhere else selling a rocket and try one, I think it's the only way.

It's not easy as I work out the UK, so getting out and trying bikes isn't something I have time for when you only get a couple of weeks home.

Premier Bikes are great. I took my KTM there for its major service as the nearest official KTM dealer. Loan bike given as they thought it would be needed overnight but I ended up going back just before they closed. Really helpful including since when I needed a specific bulb for my MOT a few months later (hadn't noticed it wasn't working and had left MOT until just before expiry) and posted by courier without charging me the courier rate. I will be going back there.

If I was selling my bike I'd accept a test ride, but I'd want the full value in my hand/bank on the agreement if you break it you've bought it.

Aye, I suggested that and someone said they would never accept that.

Must admit I've never test ridden a bike before buying it (all but one were private sales) - I quite like the ride home from collection being a 'voyage of discovery' and I've been lucky I've never not liked one I've had

I've never test ridden a private sale before buying. That said the only ones I've bought have only been a couple of years old so unlikely to be a great deal amiss if you give it a good look over.

I'd certainly get a test ride on a Rocket at a dealer first just so you know what you're dealing with.
You never know, they may have a stonking deal on their demo bike or maybe a lighting abused one that saves you having to deal with the unknown private buyer issues.

Not heard anyone say anything bad about the new Rocket yet so I'm guessing it's a pretty entertaining bit of kit.
